Communications Specialist

Summary Working with the Manager of Communications, the Communications Specialist will draft and execute internal and external communications to advance the reputation of Saint Alphonsus as an employer of choice and trusted healthcare provider. The role supports the development of strategic initiatives and related communications delivery (e.g., speeches, presentations, publications, memo announcements). Works closely with other members of the Marketing and Communications team. Employment Type Part time Shift Day Shift Requirements A bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, communications or related field required. At least five years of related experience in internal communications, public relations, or marketing/communications required. Familiarity with a health care setting preferred. What You Will Do Demonstrate strong interpersonal and written communication skills to effectively engage internal and external stakeholders. Juggle multiple projects and prioritize initiatives, maintaining flexibility and focus to deliver quality products in a fast‑moving organization. Execute projects using marketing automation platforms and project management tools such as Trello. Identify compelling content opportunities internally and externally across traditional outlets and social media. Deliver projects independently within deadlines. Collaborate within an energetic, high‑performing team. Exercise judgment and discretion in media interactions, determining appropriate information sharing and direct contacts with executive management. Write and edit content for multiple communication channels, including newsletters, press releases, intranet, town halls, colleague emails, presentations, talking points, and printed materials, as assigned by the Manager of Communications. Support the consistency and effectiveness of communications that align with mission and organizational goals, developing campaigns and evaluating results. Leverage communications and engagement data to partner with the Communications Manager in planning and executing colleague communications and announcements. Contribute to the marketing and communications team’s social media strategy by providing content for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram accounts. Work with leaders on initiatives, projects, and team communications, developing talking points for internal and external use. Provide counsel on internal/external communications for projects, programs, campaigns, and events, and may be asked to write speeches or other executive communications. Occasionally take responsibility for the team’s after‑hours media call duties. Assist in the development, production, and distribution of collateral materials as needed. Maintain confidentiality of patient, physician, employee, and visitor information in compliance with HIPAA regulations, discussing sensitive information only with appropriate staff in confidential settings. Act in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of Trinity Health Michigan. Stay knowledgeable of applicable federal, state, and local laws, the Corporate Integrity Program, the Code of Ethics, and other policies to ensure honest, ethical, and professional behavior. Support marketing and communications staff on system‑wide projects, programs, and campaigns, providing strategic communication perspectives and editing or copywriting support when requested.
