Staff Accountant
The Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting with the organization's day-to-day accounting operations while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records. This position performs a variety of accounting functions, prepares monthly financial reports, reconciles accounts, and provides support for month-end and year-end closing processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain accounting records and financial transactions using accounting software, including QuickBooks and other financial management systems.
- Perform monthly accounting for affiliated entities on QuickBooks.
- Process and maintain payee and fiduciary financial records within the RPM system.
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations, including general operating cash accounts.
- Prepare and post monthly journal entries, including lease entries, maintenance distributions, accruals, and other recurring entries.
- Prepare and process write-off files and supporting documentation.
- Prepare miscellaneous billings and invoices as assigned.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements, supporting schedules, and Board financial packets.
- Analyze general ledger activity, research discrepancies, and resolve accounting issues.
- Assist with budget monitoring and financial reporting as needed.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Maintain organized accounting records and documentation in accordance with agency policies and audit requirements.
- Provide financial information and assistance to internal departments as needed.
- Perform other accounting duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- One to three years of accounting experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience with QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work both independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with nonprofit accounting is preferred but not required.
- Experience preparing financial statements and account reconciliations.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas and data analysis.
