Research Assistant 26-053

Summary

This position involves participation in behavioral and sleep research involving animals. Duties will include assisting in small animal experimentation including behavioral observation, scoring sleep, data entry and analysis and histology. The individual will also assist with animal surgeries and general lab upkeep, maintaining supplies, and animal handling and husbandry.

Job Responsibilities:

Behavioral Testing in rats and mice.

Record keeping and ordering supplies.

Scoring sleep and data analysis.

Animal husbandry and lab upkeep cleaning.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree
Experience or willingness to learn animal research techniques.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Prior work with animal research, computer skills (e.g., Word, Excel), 

1-2 years working in animal research.

Neuroscience or psychology field of study.

This position is being filled through the  Research Foundation , which is a separate entity from Old Dominion University (ODU). While we work in support of ODU, the Research Foundation operates independently and is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization.

Final salary offers may vary depending on factors such as experience, qualifications, skills, internal equity, and budget availability.

Expected salary range: $40,000 to $47,000
