Substitute Driver

Qualifications: Valid class B commercial driver's license (CDL), with air brakes and P & S endorsements, experience in transportation, good driving record, ability to work well with students. Other qualifications as specified by the Transportation Director.

1. Drives a school bus to transport students to and from school over defined routes while adhering to structured schedules, safety policies and traffic ordinances.
2. Conducts training sessions to instruct new employees on proper and safe bus driving methods and techniques.
3. Provides instruction on and performs pre-trip inspections of the bus on a daily basis and prior to each scheduled bus run to insure compliance with Michigan Department of Transportation regulations.
4. Provides instruction on and conducts proper and legal stopping of school busses, counts students as they board, monitors student off-boarding and road crossing, and insures adherence to danger zones and railroad crossings.
5. Provides instruction on and conducts special needs training with regard to the proper operation of a wheel chair lift and properly securing a wheel chair.
6. Provides training on and performs appropriate passenger management and behavior control according to school policies and procedures.
7. Provides training and demonstration on and insures that emergency evacuation practices, procedures and policies are implemented correctly and according to school policies and procedures.
8. Completes and submits work-orders, pre-trip forms, incident reports and accident reports.
9. Operates the two-way radio in order to maintain communication with the central bus garage and school offices.
10. Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor
