Schedule for Selected Candidates CPAT Orientation will commence on August 29, 2026 and September 12, 2026. CPAT practices, by invitation only, will occur between September 24, 2026 - October 10, 2026. CPAT final will occur between October 23, 2026 - October 25, 2026. Intern Orientation, by invitation only, will be sent to all who passed CPAT by October 27, 2026. Intern Orientation dates will occur on November 14, 2026 - November 15, 2026 and November 21, 2026 - November 22, 2026. This portion of the test is conducted over one weekend on two consecutive days. Hiring interviews, by invitation only, will be sent on December 1, 2026. Final interviews will occur between December 7, 2026 - December 11, 2026. Contingent job offers will be sent December 15, 2026. Final offers will be sent on January 26, 2027. The Academy will begin on February 8, 2027. Eligibility and Requirements By December 15, 2026 all applicants: Must be at least 18 years of age Possess a high school diploma or GED Have a valid unrestricted driver’s license for at least 2 years If selected for the position you will be subject to a background check, fingerprints, psychological exam, and medical evaluation. The City of Tucson does not provide VISA sponsorship. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application and throughout the duration of employment. Relocation expenses will not be provided for this position. Candidates are responsible for all costs associated with relocating to the Tucson area, if applicable. Duties and Responsibilities Demonstrates fire suppression competencies by safely operating modern firefighting tools and equipment, recognizing fire behaviors, and building construction factors, and applying appropriate suppression tactics in accordance with departmental SOPs and nationally recognized standards. Applies risk-based decisions making to identify, isolate, and mitigate hazards during emergency and non-emergency incidents. Performs core firefighting skills through regular drills and live or simulated training evolutions, demonstrates proficiency in hose deployment, water supply, ventilation, forcible entry, search and rescue, and exposure protection. Conducts patient assessments and provides emergency medical care at the first responder level by utilizing evidence-based protocols, effective communication, and scenario-based practices in both classroom and field training settings. Inspects, operates, and maintains fire apparatus and equipment before, during, and after training evolutions to ensure operational readiness and safety. Performs additional duties as assigned.
