Responsibilities

Duties may include:

• Conducting investigations: Gathering facts, evidence, and relevant information related to assigned cases.
• Interviewing individuals: Speaking with witnesses, the person under investigation, and other relevant parties.
• Preparing reports: Documenting findings, conclusions, and recommendations for submission to the court.
• Testifying in court: Presenting findings and responding to questions during legal proceedings.
• Jail visitation: Conducting in-person visits with incarcerated individuals as required.

Qualifications

While specific requirements may vary, court-appointed investigators typically must have:

• A background in law, law enforcement, military service, social work, or a related field.
• The ability to conduct impartial, objective investigations with no personal interest in assigned cases.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Spanish-speaking ability (preferred/required — specify as applicable).
