About this position The IDB Group is looking for an active graduate student to be hired as an intern under the Consultant modality. The 2027 Winter Internship Program is a competitive paid opportunity, based in Headquarters, for university students from member countries to learn about development work and corporate management of the Bank, and to acquire work experience at the professional level through on-the-job learning. What you’ll do Consolidate, manage and curate climate and hydrological geospatial datasets relevant to hydroclimatic risk assessment in the Amazon region, ensuring data quality, consistency, and accessibility. Support hydroclimatic risk analyses of water infrastructure by modeling, compiling, processing, and analyzing data on floods, droughts, extreme precipitation, and climate change impacts using statistical and geospatial tools such as GIS and HydroBID. Develop data visualizations, maps, dashboards, and analytical summaries to consolidate key findings and support evidence-based decision-making for water security and climate resilience operations. Assist in the preparation of technical outputs, including reports, presentations, knowledge products, and documentation of data sources, methodologies, and analytical workflows. Collaborate with the team to support research, project preparation, and the integration of climate risks and water security considerations into development initiatives in the Amazon Basin. Technical skills: Familiarity with hydroclimatic, climate, environmental and socioeconomic datasets, including remote sensing and earth observation products. Understanding of hydrology, climate change impacts, disaster risks management. Data Analysis & Programming:Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and Excel for data processing, statistical analysis, and automation of analytical workflows. Geospatial Analysis:Experience with GIS platforms (QGIS) and spatial data analysis, including remote sensing and mapping applications. Data Visualization & Risk Analytics: Ability to develop dashboards, maps, and visualizations (Power BI, Tableau, Python) and support hydroclimatic risk assessments related to floods, droughts, and climate impacts in the context of infrastructure projects. Requirements Citizenship : Be a national of an IDB member country. Active student : Enrolled in a graduate (master’s or Ph.D.) program as of the starting date of the internship program. The graduation date should be after the Internship period. Consanguinity : Not have family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB or IDB Invest. First job at the IDB Group : Be a first-time participant in an Internship Program held by the Bank or Inter-American Investment Corporation (“Corporation” also known as “IDB Invest”). In addition, you have not been a former staff member, Complementary Workforce (“CW”), contractor for the Bank or the Corporation, or have previously provided services to the Bank or the Corporation through a contractor or under any other contractual modality.
