Summary: RN/LPN-LRT: The RN/LPN/Limited Radiologic Technologist will assist with the assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating of patient care in the clinic practice setting. Responsible for documentation of interventions, outcomes, and patient/family education. Collaborates with physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary health care team to provide continuity of care. The RN/Limited Radiologic Technologist is responsible for the direction and assignment of nursing interventions that may be performed by others. Performs radiographic procedures to assist in a diagnosis of disease and injuries. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate patient care and is accountable to the policies and procedures of the organization.
Rad Tech: Under direct supervision, performs radiographic procedures ordered by a medical provider to assist in the diagnosis of disease and injuries. Directly responsible for obtaining radiographic studies and development or processing of those studies into quality images to ensure accurate patient diagnoses. The Radiology Technologist works effectively with patients and patients' families and maintains a cooperative relationship with departmental personnel. Other Certifications/Requirements American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required. Current Medical Radiographer license or temporary permit from the State of Nebraska required.

- Produce quality radiographic images through selection of the appropriate calibration and technique and by ensuring proper development and/or processing of all images.
- Maintain knowledge of anatomy and pathology in order to produce high quality images.
- Proficiently operate all functions of radiographic equipment.
- Select and manipulate appropriate technical factors to obtain quality radiographic images.
- Ensure that procedures are completed in a prompt manner, from receipt of orders through processing of images to ensure optimum interpretation of all images.
- Review images and adjust technical factors, as appropriate, to assist with patient diagnosis.
- Demonstrate understanding of basic processor mechanics; recognize the appearance of contaminated chemistry and/or related chemical artifacts on images and notify bioelectronics personnel when necessary for adjustments or repairs of equipment.
- Ensure proper radiation protection methods are in place at all times to protect patients, staff and self, according to prescribed safety standards.
- Utilize effective patient care and communication skills to obtain optimum patient rapport.
- Monitor patient condition and take appropriate action to ensure continuity of patient care.
- Work to ensure patient comfort, safety and modesty throughout all procedures.
- Practice sterile technique, when appropriate, to prevent cross-contamination of patients, staff and equipment.
- Maintain adequate supply of inventory in work areas and notify supervisor when additional supplies are required.
- Identify all images with accurate, compete and readable information (i.e. patient identification, left, right, supine or upright views, date, time, etc.).
- Record patient history and examination information as required; consistently monitor orders and requisitions for completeness and accuracy of information.
- Wear film badges to assure compliance with radiation safety monitoring standards.
- Use protective devices and techniques according to radiation safety policies and guidelines.
- Ensure the safety of other staff members, patients and visitors in unshielded areas.
- Maintain cleanliness of radiology rooms, equipment and work areas.
- Perform clerical duties as necessary.
- Assist with transportation of patients to and from the radiology rooms as required.
- Consistently demonstrate competent use of the nursing process to assess, prioritize, formulate, implement, evaluate and adapt the interdisciplinary plan of care to meet the patient's age-specific needs.
- Provides information and involves family/caregiver in decision making as appropriate.
- Use population specific knowledge to appropriately modify approach and procedures to meeting the needs of age groups served.
- Consistently and skillfully perform and documents physical screening and tests, including but not limited to, EKG, auditory, glucometer, collection of cultures, venipunctures, urine testing, and TB testing.
- Assist the Physician with biopsies, cystoscopies, CMG's, cast application and removal, injections and other procedures as directed.
- Schedule surgery and obtain appropriate insurance authorizations for surgery and tests.
- Order supplies for the clinic.
- Clean and process clinic instruments and equipment.
- Formulate and initiate patient plans of care as appropriate and provide continuity of care to meet the age specific needs.
- Includes and communicates the plan of care to patient, family, significant others and relays pertinent information through appropriate documentation and referral to other health care team members.
- Carry out physician orders within scope of practice.
- Records information on the patient record in accordance with charting and regulatory guidelines.
- Recognizes changes in patient status based on interpretation of assessments and carries out physician orders.
- Accurately and skillfully performs and documents all procedures and treatments administered to patients during their clinic visit.
- Delegate and assign appropriate aspects of patient care.
- Organize and adjust workload to meet the needs of the clinic and maintain patient flow.
- Make appointment call backs to patient/family with appropriate documentation.
- Appropriately utilizes a triage process for patient call-ins with appropriate documentation.
- Call in medication orders from physicians to appropriate pharmacy when needed. Make appointments for patients as ordered by physicians. Communicate instructions to patients and others as necessary with appropriate documentation.
- Review, process and call patients with pending lab x-ray and drug screen results after physician review of those results.
- Administer IV fluids as appropriate.
- Calculate and verify dosage for drug administration.
- Identify educational needs for patient/family.
- Use available teaching aids to implement teaching plans for assigned patient/family and revises the plan based on evaluation of effectiveness.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic patient environment.
- Assess patient/family level of understanding of their rights and responsibilities as healthcare consumers and includes them in decision making.
- Advocate for patient's needs through communication and the interdisciplinary planning process.
- Contribute to the caring environment in the workplace.

- Upon presentation, consistently and accurately perform and document vital signs, chief complaint, and medical/psychosocial history (to include allergies).
- Consistently and skillfully perform and document physical screening and tests, including but not limited to, EKG, audiometry, glucometer, collection of cultures, urine testing, and TB testing.

- Call, e-prescribe of fax in medication orders from provider to appropriate pharmacy and document those orders.

- Ensure appropriate consent forms are signed by the patient or responsible party for contrast procedures.
- Assist physician and technologists with Radiologic procedures. Coordinate procedures with appropriate departments and personnel as needed.
- Maintain technical skills relating to imaging factors.
- Maintain knowledge of anatomy and pathology in order to produce high quality images.

- Ensure exams are completed in a prompt manner from receipt or requisition & imaging for interpretation.

- Uses filtration devices (i.e., boluses, filters), FFD, film-screen combinations, photocell selection, etc. to obtain highest quality images.
- Maintain skills in performing emergency and routine patient care as required.
- Utilizes effective patient care and communication skills to obtain optimum patient rapport.
- Monitor patient condition and take appropriate action to ensure continuity of patient care.
- Ensure patient comfort, safety and modesty throughout procedures.
- Monitor the condition of equipment and supplies to ensure safe and efficient operations of the department.
- Maintain adequate supply inventory in work area, restocking as needed. Notify supervisor of inadequate supplies. Properly warm up equipment.
- Ensure proper recording and transmission of patient information.
- Maintain data for the Radiology Information System by accurately entering patient, exam, view and supply data.
- Identify images with accurate, complete, and readable information (patient ID information, Lt/Rt, time, supine/upright, etc.)
- Record patient history and exam information on the requisition as required; consistently monitor requisitions for completeness and accuracy of information.
- Comply with radiation safety guidelines.
- Wears a film badge to assure compliance with ALARA standards.
- Uses protective devices (i.e., aprons, gloves) and techniques according to department radiation safety guidelines.
- Ensure safety of other personnel and visitors required to remain in unshielded areas.
- Uses beam restriction devices to consistently minimize radiation exposure to patients.
- Maintains cleanliness of rooms, equipment, and other work areas.
