Responsibilities *

• Assist guests and visitors by opening doors, answering questions, and providing emergency and directional assistance.

• Assist or carry patients and visitors from or into private cars and ambulances, stretchers, and wheelchairs.

• Escort patients and visitors to and from designated locations.

• Notify drivers of vehicles of parking violations and inform the appropriate departments if not corrected.

• Coordinate parking operations by directing vehicles to parking spaces and ensuring maximum utilization of available space.

• Ensure access to the building and driveway by moving traffic.

• Maintain the entrance area by sweeping the entrance and removing trash from the ground.

• Maintain a supply of clean and usable wheelchairs and stretchers at the entrance.

• Provide assistance in emergency disaster programs.

Required Qualifications *

• High School Diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Must be able to tolerate outside adverse weather conditions.

• Must be able to communicate effectively with patients/visitors.

• Must be able to work effectively within a team environment.

• Must be able to read and write English.

• Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities, including pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, etc.

• Computer knowledge.

• Must be able to lift patients in/out of vehicles, wheelchairs, etc.

• Must be able to pass a criminal history check.

Desired Qualifications *

• Preferred candidate with previous hospital or public service experience.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening
