Quarry Supervisor

Job Summary The Quarry Superintendent coordinates and supervises quarry operations to ensure an adequate amount of raw material from the quarry is available to meet plant production needs. This position closely monitors the daily activities of quarry workers and exercises supervision over a medium amount of employees working in the quarry. Responsibilities Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines. Establish, communicate, and assign job responsibilities, goals, and performance standards for employees within supervisory responsibility. Evaluate job performance. Supervise and monitor hauling operations to prepare particular types of rock for crushing. Supervise drilling, blasting, and land stripping operations where applicable. Ensure that all quarry activities are properly conducted and comply with all safety standards and regulations. Conduct or participate in quarry department safety meetings and safety inspections of work areas. Monitor production needs to ensure enough rock is available and ready for use in manufacturing. Ensure that an appropriate amount of explosives is available when explosives are used in quarry operations. Maintain specified records of quarry and mining activities. Prepare reports and other specified paperwork as requested by management. Inspect work sites to make sure proper clean‑up procedures have been executed. Cooperate with other department managers to coordinate production operations with the quarry operations to supply the needed amount of raw materials from the quarry. Assist as needed in planning long‑term quarry development goals including mining exploration. Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and specifications on purchased equipment. Coordinate purchased material with plant needs. Maintain awareness of current industry trends and practices by reading trade and industry magazines. Schedule repairs and other maintenance with the maintenance department as needed. Order and obtain parts and equipment. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications Vocational/Technical degree in geology, mining, engineering, or related field preferred. Minimum of 3 years of experience in a quarry or mining preferred. Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory position preferred. Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc. Ability to make decisions and exercise sound judgment in arriving at a conclusion. Ability to solve problems with high attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to perform, organize, and prioritize work independently. Ability to lead and manage others. Ability to effectively manage multiple projects in parallel to conclusion. Knowledge of quarry operations, including using quarry equipment and proper procedures for using explosives safely and effectively. Knowledge of MSHA safety regulations and state and federal mining laws. Ability to make sound independent judgments regularly. Ability to work under general supervision with specified policies, practices, and objectives. Ability to refer questionable items to supervisor for clarification.
