Fleet Services - Operations Manager

The Operations Manager II (SM II) oversees operations and personnel for locations with up to 240 equivalent truck units, ensuring business objectives, labor requirements, and company standards are met. The role balances financial, operating, quality, safety, and asset targets while driving customer satisfaction. Location & Schedule Shop Location – Morristown, TN Work Schedule – Monday – Friday Overview Responsible for managing the performance of the assigned location(s) through leadership, operational excellence, and adherence to policies and procedures. The role may prepare incumbents for the Senior Operations Manager position. Responsibilities Operations Management Analysis, vehicle planning and scheduling; assign work to technicians. Productivity tracking, shift and shop meetings, RO review and approval. Labor planning: evaluate work, allocate resources, balance schedules, and level load effort. Optimize labor mix (straight time, O/T, Outside Repair) and shift patterns. Oversee Automated Planning System (APS) execution. Labor Management Manage, train, and develop all assigned personnel. Performance management and technical training plan execution. Prioritize TOPS plan based on breakdown, rework, and running cost trends. Staffing recommendations, recruiting, hiring, onboarding, payroll, and succession planning. Customer Management Maintain customer relationships, issue resolution, satisfaction, and retention. Execute customer communication protocol and optimize vehicle maintenance cycle time. Collaborate with Sales on service requirements and conduct customer visits/annual reviews. Financial Management Implement cost control measures and manage maintenance operations budget and P&L. Execute maintenance initiatives to meet financial targets and optimize net maintenance cost per unit. Vendor sourcing, invoice reconciliation, fuel reconciliation, and customer bill‑back process. Ensure accuracy of third‑party invoices and quality of outsourced work. Asset Management Maintain shop appearance, 6S standards, tooling, and equipment. Oversee vehicle specifications, in‑service/out‑service processes, and parts inventory management. Coordinate with rental and VMI for preventive maintenance scheduling. Quality Management Conduct quality inspections, root‑cause analysis, and implement corrective actions. Manage mandatory compliance items and quality metrics, Continuous Improvement programs, and audit corrective action plans. Ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and a clean, high‑quality repair environment. Additional Responsibilities – Perform duties as assigned. Skills & Abilities Proven success in leading, training, and developing teams with effective delegation. Understanding of labor, financial, quality, safety, and asset processes and metrics. Strong accountability and record of achieving desired results. Excellent verbal and written communication. Proficient in basic computer skills, Microsoft Office (intermediate Excel and Word preferred). Experience with reporting systems, fleet management software, and shop maintenance preferred. Commitment to a safe work environment, quality execution, and customer service. Qualifications High school diploma/GED required; associate’s degree preferred; bachelor’s degree preferred. 3+ years of operations experience or proven success in a Ryder role. 1–2+ years of supervisory experience. Travel: 1–10%. Safety‑sensitive, non‑regulated tech; DOT regulated optional. Compensation & Benefits Salaried position – Pay range $75,000.
