Facilities & Grounds Technician

The Opportunity

The BUG (Building Utilities Grounds) Utility Tech role supports the Maintenance Department by assisting with building, utilities, and grounds activities, as well as small facilities projects and housekeeping efforts throughout the plant. This position helps maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while supporting 5S and housekeeping standards established by management.

This role requires close collaboration with Maintenance and plant leadership, attention to detail, and a strong focus on safety. The Utility Tech performs a variety of support tasks that contribute to smooth facility operations and overall site effectiveness.

How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock

\u2022 Support the Maintenance Department with daily building, utilities, and grounds-related activities.

\u2022 Assist with small remodeling and facilities projects as assigned.

\u2022 Perform routine housekeeping and waste disposal activities to maintain plant cleanliness and organization.

\u2022 Organize and clean the maintenance area and other designated areas throughout the plant.

\u2022 Maintain housekeeping and 5S standards in accordance with management expectations.

\u2022 Assist leadership and maintenance team members with miscellaneous duties as needed.

\u2022 Remain aware of safety concerns and follow all safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.

\u2022 Adhere to Smurfit Westrock core values and behaviors while supporting plant operations.

What You Need to Succeed

Required Qualifications:

\u2022 Minimum high school diploma or GED required.

\u2022 Ability to read and write instructions, safety rules, and basic correspondence.

\u2022 Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

\u2022 Ability to stand and remain on feet for up to 12 hours per day.

\u2022 Ability to use hands for simple and power grasping, pushing, and pulling tasks.

\u2022 Ability to safely use hand-operated power tools.

\u2022 Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

\u2022 Demonstrated reliability with consistent attendance.

\u2022 Ability to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Safety Requirements

Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required while performing job duties. At a minimum, employees must wear safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, and hearing protection. Certain projects may require additional PPE based on task-specific risks.

All company safety policies, procedures, and guidelines must be followed at all times.

Essential functions include walking throughout the facility, performing housekeeping duties, lifting and carrying materials, and climbing stairs. Marginal functions may include climbing ladders and performing other facility-related tasks as needed.
