KIPP

Company Description

About KIPP NYC

Founded in 1995, KIPP NYC Public Schools is a non-profit network of 18 free, public charter schools located in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. We partner with families and communities to create joyful, academically excellent schools where every child grows up free to create the future they want for themselves and their communities.

From our first middle school, KIPP Academy in the Bronx, to today’s network of eight elementary schools, nine middle schools, and one high school, KIPP NYC provides students with engaging academics, arts, athletics, and social–emotional learning that prepare them for college, career, and beyond.

Our commitment doesn’t end at graduation. Through KIPP Forward, we continue to support our alumni as they navigate college, career, and life, helping them define success on their own terms and pursue the paths that align with their goals and sense of purpose.

Together, we serve more than 9,400 students, support 4,700 alumni, and employ over 1,100 dedicated team members who bring passion, expertise, and commitment to our mission every day.

Position Overview

The Regional English as a New Language (ENL) Teacher is a member of KIPP NYC’s Regional Student Support Services Team and plays a critical role in ensuring multilingual learners receive high-quality, equitable access to rigorous, grade-level instruction.

This educator will provide ENL services across multiple KIPP NYC schools, supporting students in grades K–12, with a primary focus on those at the Entering, Emerging, and Transitioning levels of English proficiency.

The Regional ENL Teacher collaborates closely with school-based leaders, including Directors of Student Support Services, classroom teachers, and regional staff, to ensure services are aligned to both compliance requirements and KIPP NYC’s vision for excellent, inclusive instruction.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Student Support Services, the Regional ENL Teacher plays a key role in delivering high-quality, equitable language instruction, strengthening systems of support for multilingual learners, and ensuring that every student is known, challenged, and supported to achieve at the highest levels.

This is a full-time, hybrid position. The role requires a minimum of three in-person days per week, which may take place at the KIPP NYC Midtown Manhattan regional office and/or at KIPP NYC campuses across the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan, depending on student needs and service delivery priorities.

The cadence and frequency of school visits will be determined in partnership with your manager and may vary week to week based on student caseloads, school schedules, and programmatic needs. As such, flexibility is essential, as weekly schedules may shift to ensure all students receive mandated and high-quality ENL services.

Travel between sites is an expected and essential component of this role.

  • Collaborate with Directors of Student Support Services to develop and maintain service schedules that meet student needs and ensure compliance
  • Communicate regularly with families about student progress, language development, and ways to support learning at home
  • Work cross-functionally with regional teams to analyze data, identify trends, and implement strategic supports

Compliance & Assessment

  • Support the administration and execution of state assessments, including NYSITELL and NYSESLAT, ensuring adherence to all testing protocols
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation related to ENL services, student progress, and compliance requirements
  • Partner with the Regional Manager of ENL Services to track deadlines, ensure regulatory compliance, and support reporting

Organizational Impact

  • Contribute to a team-oriented, mission-driven culture that prioritizes student success and adult learning
  • Model KIPP NYC’s values and commitment to educational equity, anti-racism, and culturally responsive practice
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and reflect on practice to continuously improve instructional impact

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Education or a related field
  • New York State certification in ENL, Bilingual Education, or a related area
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with multilingual learners
  • Demonstrated track record of accelerating achievement for historically underserved students
  • Deep belief in KIPP NYC’s mission and an unwavering commitment to educational equity and social justice
  • Strong understanding of second language acquisition and culturally responsive pedagogy
  • Ability to analyze data and translate insights into effective instructional practices
  • Experience with or ability to quickly learn virtual instruction tools and platforms
  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • High degree of professionalism, including discretion with sensitive and confidential information
  • A flexible, solutions-oriented mindset and willingness to adapt to evolving needs
  • Demonstrates zest, grit, hope, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor in daily work
  • Thrives in a collaborative, feedback-driven environment
