General Summary Buyer I, under supervision, performs entry-level, standard purchasing duties with the purpose of obtaining supplies, equipment and routine services. Responsibilities Procures goods and services and ensure accuracy of such purchases. Prepares specifications for purchases. Received requisitions, secures bids, tabulates and makes award of standard purchases. Maintains records and files of requisitions, bids and awards processed. Issues purchase orders according to proper policies and procedures. Assists purchasing manager with processing of invoices and routing requisitions. Maintains 100% compliance with timely completion of required System, University and job-specific online training courses. Necessary Qualifications Bachelor's degree or combination of education and experience. CTD (Certified Contract Developer) to be obtained within 12 months on start date. Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of standard business terms and arithmetic. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Effective interpersonal and organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree. Two (2) years of experience in accounting or similar field. Due to budgetary reasons, West Texas A&M University will not offer H-1B or other work authorization visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.
