Full time | Frontier Strategies | United States Job Information Education City Del Rio State/Province Texas 78840 Job Description High School Chemistry Teacher The High School Chemistry Teacher is responsible for providing rigorous, engaging, and standards-aligned instruction in Chemistry for students in grades 9–12. The teacher will design and deliver instruction aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Chemistry, foster scientific inquiry and critical thinking, and provide students with meaningful laboratory and problem-solving experiences. The teacher will create a safe, inclusive, and academically challenging learning environment that prepares students to understand chemical principles, apply scientific and mathematical reasoning, analyze evidence, communicate scientific ideas, and make connections between chemistry and real-world applications. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction and Curriculum Plan, prepare, and deliver daily Chemistry instruction aligned with the current Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) Develop and implement lessons that address the major Chemistry content areas, including:Scientific and engineering practices, investigation, and laboratory safety Recurring themes and concepts in science Atomic structure and the periodic table Chemical bonding and molecular structure Chemical formulas, nomenclature, and quantitative relationships The mole concept and stoichiometry Chemical reactions and energy changes Gases and gas laws Solutions and solubility Acids, bases, and pH Reaction rates and chemical equilibrium Oxidation-reduction and electrochemistry Design instruction that promotes conceptual understanding as well as mathematical and analytical problem-solving skills. Use demonstrations, laboratory investigations, technology, models, simulations, scientific literature, and real-world applications to support student learning. Incorporate the recurring themes and concepts of science, including patterns, systems, energy and matter, structure and function, stability and change, cause and effect, scale and proportion, and scientific explanation. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with diverse learning abilities, including English learners, students receiving special education services, and students requiring enrichment or acceleration. Laboratory Instruction and Safety Plan and supervise laboratory investigations that support mastery of Chemistry TEKS and provide students with opportunities to develop scientific inquiry and investigation skills. Maintain a safe laboratory environment and ensure compliance with applicable district, state, and federal safety requirements. Instruct students in proper laboratory procedures, chemical handling, use of safety equipment, waste disposal, and emergency response procedures. Maintain accurate inventories of chemicals, laboratory equipment, and instructional supplies. Follow district procedures for chemical storage, labeling, disposal, and documentation. Promote a strong culture of safety before, during, and after all laboratory activities. Assessment and Student Progress Develop and administer formative and summative assessments aligned with Chemistry TEKS and district curriculum requirements. Analyze student performance data to identify learning gaps and adjust instruction accordingly. Provide timely, meaningful feedback to students regarding academic progress and mastery of course objectives. Maintain accurate student records and grades in accordance with district policies. Provide intervention, remediation, tutoring, enrichment, or acceleration opportunities as needed. Prepare students for applicable state and district assessments and support readiness for advanced science coursework, college, and career pathways. Classroom Management and Student Engagement Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and well-managed classroom environment conducive to learning. Encourage student curiosity, scientific reasoning, collaboration, and evidence-based discussion. Promote student responsibility, ethical scientific practices, and academic integrity. Communicate high expectations and support students in achieving academic success. Build positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and campus stakeholders. Professional Responsibilities Participate in campus and district professional development, department meetings, professional learning communities, and curriculum planning activities. Collaborate with other science teachers to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum and instruction. Stay current with changes to Texas curriculum standards, instructional practices, laboratory safety requirements, and Chemistry education. Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and achievements. Support campus and district initiatives and perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee. Requirements Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Valid Texas teaching certificate appropriate for the assignment, or eligibility for certification under applicable Texas requirements. Demonstrated knowledge of high school Chemistry content and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Knowledge of effective instructional strategies, classroom management, assessment practices, and differentiated instruction. Ability to safely conduct and supervise high school Chemistry laboratory investigations. Strong verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to use instructional technology, data, laboratory equipment, and digital learning tools effectively. Preferred Qualifications Texas certification in Chemistry, Science, or another appropriate secondary science certification area. Previous experience teaching high school Chemistry. Experience with laboratory management and chemical safety. Experience teaching advanced, honors, dual-credit, or college-preparatory Chemistry, when applicable. Demonstrated ability to integrate technology, scientific modeling, data analysis, and real-world applications into Chemistry instruction. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of Chemistry principles and scientific practices. Ability to translate Texas Chemistry TEKS into effective daily instruction and student learning objectives. Skill in designing rigorous laboratory and inquiry-based learning experiences. Ability to develop students’ quantitative reasoning, scientific literacy, problem-solving, and evidence-based argumentation skills. Knowledge of appropriate laboratory safety practices and chemical management procedures. Ability to analyze student achievement data and use results to improve instruction. Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, students, parents, and community partners.
