Internship Overview At the County of Marin, our employees overwhelmingly report feeling their work is meaningful, they like the work they do, and they are proud to tell people “I work for the County of Marin.” The Marin County Free Library (MCFL) is a special taxing district that operates ten branch libraries in Marin under the authority of the Board of Supervisors. It provides public library services to the residents of the unincorporated areas of the County and the cities of Corte Madera, Fairfax and Novato. Webstars is a paid youth internship program in Marin County, founded in 1999 at the Marin City Library, that provides hands‑on training and work experience. Through Webstars, teen interns build skills they need to pursue careers in technology, libraries, and STEM education. Apprentices learn job skills, facilitation, process‑based learning, maker tools, and program design. This internship will take place at The Shop, located near the South Novato Library in Hamilton. The Shop is a public space for making, learning, and building community. It is located next to the South Novato Library, is free for all to visit and use, and offers a wide range of tools and activities for patrons of all ages, such as woodworking, painting, bicycle maintenance, sewing, and more. The Shop is not inside the library and is not a library job. Responsibilities Supporting patrons of all ages with a variety of craft projects including sewing, painting, woodworking, and more. Supporting users with tools and materials in the space. Maintaining a clean space and preparing it for future use. Helping service tools and keeping track of materials and general inventory. Supporting many fun seasonal events for the public. Maintaining a safe environment for all users. Quality Candidate Profile Maintains high school enrollment for the duration of the internship. Has reliable transportation to the assigned work location. Is responsible, mature, and motivated to learn. Is interested in working directly with the public. Can commit to a minimum of 10 hours every two weeks. Minimum Qualifications Applicants must be enrolled in a high school academic or vocational curriculum or be within one year of having graduated. Applicants under 18 years of age must secure a work permit from their high school district before being employed.
