Victory Learning Center at Ridge and Victory Learning Center at Martin are expanding and opening new classrooms! Victory Learning Center is expanding and we need compassionate Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) to help us support our students! Victory Learning Center programs offer specialized educational services for students who are diagnosed with Autism or a Cognitive Disability paired with a mental-health diagnosis. There are two separate sites conveniently located in Lackawanna, NY, servicing students ages 5-21 who are residentially placed or are referred through their local school district's Committee on Special Education. Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist - Victory Learning Center Posting Title for Recruiting: Speech Language Pathologist - Victory Learning Center Responsible to: Lead Principal School Age Division Job Summary Victory Learning Center is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist to work with students aged 5 to 21, primarily diagnosed on the Autism spectrum, with mental health and/or behavioral concerns, and developmental or intellectual disabilities. The Speech Language Pathologist will collaborate with other educators to plan and implement appropriate therapeutic interventions tailored to the individual needs of students. This role involves creating a flexible and supportive environment where students can engage in speech/language therapy services that promote the acquisition of expressive and receptive language skills. The therapist will work in various educational settings, providing individualized and group therapy to students based on their IEP needs. Reviews all available documentation related to the individual prior to beginning treatment; including the IEP, script and prior evaluations if available. Develops an appropriate treatment plan for each individual. Provides direct speech therapy services to students both individually and in group settings according to IEP and accepted professional standards and practices. Monitoring student progress and adjusting therapy plans as necessary to ensure continuous improvement. Performs appropriate parent/caregiver education and develops home programs as necessary. Submits weekly notes and billing based on agency requirements. Works as part of an multidisciplinary team, utilizing communication with all team members to enhance the treatment program of the individual. Maintains an accurate schedule. Submits all required documentation of visits according to established procedures. Performs evaluations as assigned and when necessary. Communicates with families on a regular basis.Keeps abreast of legal responsibilities, professional ethics, standards of practice and agency rules, policies and regulations. Provides for own professional growth by attending continuing education and in services; tracking this to assure compliance with state licensing requirements. Trains and supports other personnel in appropriate strategies to build expressive/receptive language skills. Implements Alternative and Augmentative Communication systems, as appropriate, for non-verbal or limited verbal youth. Creates daily visual schedules, activity schedules as needed. Discontinues therapy when child no longer meets eligibility requirements. Maintains client confidentiality with HIPPA/FERPA and agency guidelines. Maintains professional appearance, follows agency dress code. Attends CSE meetings for individuals on caseload as required. Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by their direct supervisor. Skills Requires the ability to utilize computer systems and software necessary to perform position functions. Requires effective oral/written communication and interpersonal skills for interactions with various individuals both internal and external to the program. Must be able to deal tactfully and effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds. Ability to work well in a team environment. Significant problem solving and diagnostic skills with the ability to quickly analyze situations and adopt an effective course of action. Ability to handle stressful and sensitive situations in a professional manner. Use of Alternative and Augmentative Communication devices (PECS, LAMP, sign language, communication boards, etc.) Minimum Degree Required: Master’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology/Communication Disorders Minimum Experience Required Minimum Experience: 1-2 years of experience is required License/Registration/ Certifications Required Teacher of Speech and Hearing Handicapped Certification in NYS Valid NYS SLP Licensure Valid NYS Driver’s License Training Requirements Continuing education as per NYS Office of Profession guidelines SCIP-R CPR Physical Requirements The overall nature of the position is sedentary requiring little physical effort with occasional light physical exertion required. There is little, if any, exposure to environmental conditions. The constant physical demand of the position is sitting. The frequent physical demands of the position are standing, walking, climbing, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and eye/hand/foot coordination.
