Electrolit Manufacturing USA (EMUSA) is a new, state-of-the-art beverage manufacturing facility in Waco, TX. The 640,000 sqft. Facility is situated in the Texas Central Industrial Park and will be operating on a 24/7 schedule. The facility will manufacture and distribute the 26 flavors of ElectrolitTM - the fastest growing isotonic hydration beverage in the US.
POSITION SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of the SCADA Engineer is to provide technical leadership and support for the facility’s industrial automation, SCADA, HMI, PLC, and process control systems. This role is responsible for the design, maintenance, troubleshooting, optimization, and continuous improvement of manufacturing automation systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. The SCADA Engineer works closely with Production, Maintenance, Quality, IT, and Engineering teams to support manufacturing performance, data integrity, system reliability, and operational excellence. This role serves as the primary bridge between Information Technology and Operations for all plant-floor automation matters, owning the diagnosis and resolution of SCADA, HMI, PLC, network, and control-system issues, while partnering with IT on matters involving SAP, ERP, and enterprise business systems. This position will be working with sensitive information and therefore requires execution of an NDA.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as SME for SCADA/HMI/PLC and industrial control systems facility-wide, including SCADA integration with ShotScope, FactoryTalk Batch, and FactoryTalk Optix — developing, configuring, and troubleshooting applications, graphics, alarms, historical data, recipes/formulas, and reporting to maximize uptime and reliability.
- Program, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC control logic, communications, and device integration; diagnose and resolve field-level connectivity issues (I/O, control panels, comm drops) across the plant floor.
- Support process automation across batching, blending, filling, packaging, conveying, utilities, and warehouse operations, partnering with Maintenance and Operations to troubleshoot issues and drive root-cause analysis on failures from SCADA point of view.
- Monitor SCADA performance, proactively identify reliability/efficiency opportunities, and lead continuous improvement projects to boost productivity and reduce waste.
- Establish and maintain automation standards: documentation, backups, programming standards, and dashboards at SCADA.
- Support startup, commissioning, validation, and qualification of new equipment and automation systems through SCADA
- Support integration between SCADA, MES, ERP, and other plant systems; drive Industry 4.0, data collection, and digital transformation initiatives.
- Act as primary liaison between Operations and IT for automation/control matters — owning resolution of SCADA/HMI/PLC/OT issues, defining clear OT-vs-IT escalation criteria, and escalating SAP/ERP/enterprise issues appropriately.
- Train operations/maintenance personnel on automation systems; manage automation-related contractors, vendors, and service providers.
JOB EFFICIENCY MEASURES
Job performance will be assessed using measurable metrics, which may include but are not limited to:
- Production output and throughput targets.
- Functional Dashboards.
- Equipment uptime, utilization, and operational efficiency.
- On-time completion and schedule adherence.
- Participation in and contribution to continuous improvement initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience supporting industrial automation and control systems.
- Experience with SCADA platforms such as Rockwell FactoryTalk Batch, Factory Talk View Se, FactoryTalk Optix, and ShotScope, or similar platforms (e.g., Ignition, Wonderware/AVEVA, WinCC).
- Strong knowledge of HMI development and industrial networking.
- Experience with industrial communication protocols including Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, Profinet, OPC UA, and serial communications.
- Knowledge of SQL databases, data historians, reporting platforms, and manufacturing data systems.
- Experience in food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or other GMP-regulated manufacturing environments preferred.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
- Fluency in English required; Spanish is a plus.
