Job Summary
The NICU Chronic Complex Care Unit allows you to be part of providing exceptional care to our most fragile babies. This is a 15‑bed technology dependent NICU unit in which you would work as a team to provide specialized family‑centered care to former pre‑term infants that are less than 2 years old who require chronic airway or respiratory support in a compassionate and caring manner. This is a high‑acuity unit where you may manage several drips. Infants may have BPD, pulmonary hypertension, and/or congenital malformations of the large airways of the lungs.

The NICU was founded in 1961 by Mildred Stahlman, MD. Vanderbilt has remained at the forefront of medical care for babies needing intensive care ever since. We are a level IV tertiary care NICU that attends to the complex care needs of more than 1,400 fragile newborns per year.

Shift
7 PM – 7 AM, 36 Hours a Week

Key Responsibilities

Apply the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning.

Effectively communicate pertinent patient/family information to the health care team.

Collaborate in establishing patient goals and evaluate progress to ensure effective outcomes.

Foster professional growth by engaging in learning activities in accordance with Board of Nursing standards.

Collaborate in establishing the plan of care, coordinate and implement care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.

Analyze comprehensive information pertinent to the patients care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.

Continuously utilize the nursing process to evaluate patient’s progress toward goals and apply appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.

Employ strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Technical Capabilities

Care Planning (Novice): Demonstrate ability to anticipate resource needs, identify distinct tasks, set priorities, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work within areas of direct responsibility.

Nursing Patient Education (Novice): Provide patient education in practical applications of moderate difficulty.

Nursing Patient Assessment & Evaluation (Novice): Conduct primary care patient interviews and physical examinations; recognize problems, ask questions, and contact the patient’s primary care provider and other members of the healthcare team.

Evidence‑Based Practice (Novice): Search for evidence to answer clinical questions under direction of others.

Position Qualifications

Licensure: Registered Nurse – LIC

Relevant work experience: 1 year

Education: Graduate of an approved discipline‑specific program
