What You’ll DoAs the Assistant Site & Health Director – NJ, you’ll play a key role in ensuring smooth operations, camper well-being, and excellent communication at our smaller, tight-knit New Jersey site. The Assistant Site Director in New Jersey will serve as the designated Health Director for your site in alignment with New Jersey youth camp licensing requirements.
You’ll oversee daily logistics, support staff and campers, and serve as the primary point of contact for camper health, parent communication, and site organization. You’ll play a critical part in ensuring a safe, responsive, and supportive environment for campers and team members throughout the season. Responsibilities in accordance to New Jersey Youth Camp Safety Standards and DEAN protocols include, but are not limited to:
- Supporting the Site Director to ensure camp operations run safely, smoothly, and on schedule each day; take ownership of establishing procedures and readiness standards that support an efficient and compliant Health Center.
- Coordinating camper health needs by organizing health forms, administering medications in accordance with camper health plans, documenting medication logs in compliance with HIPAA guidelines and confidentiality, and providing first aid and emergency care for injuries or illnesses.
- Review Camper and Staff Health histories prior to and during camp operations to ensure documentation is acceptable and identify allergies, medical conditions, and other concerns requiring accommodation.
- Communicating with parents regarding camper health updates, incidents, or general inquiries in a clear, timely, and supportive manner.
- Greeting families at check-in/check-out with professionalism and warmth; answering parent phone calls, documenting conversations in writing, and sending clear, professional follow-up emails.
- Managing supplies and ensuring all program, safety, and first aid materials are stocked and ready for daily use.
- Supporting the team with logistics, camper transitions, sun safety, emergency procedures, and proactive behavior management strategies.
- Provide, oversee, and respond with first aid for campers + team members.
- Maintaining and distributing accurate rosters, daily reports, and printables from CampBrain and the portal to support planning, compliance, and visibility.
- Record Keeping and Documentation
- Maintain a bound medical log at the health center, as required. Log must document every health center visit with the date, name of camper/counselor, ailment, treatment provided, and name of who administered treatment.
- Store and handle the log in compliance with HIPAA privacy standards, ensuring access is limited to those with a legitimate need to know.
- Modeling calm, professional leadership and fostering DEAN’s culture of kindness, inclusion, and accountability among both staff and campers.
- Serve as a point of contact for health-related communication with team members and, when appropriate, families.
- Conduct daily health surveillances by monitoring camper and team member wellness, identifying concerns early, and escalating when needed
- Support overall camp safety practices, including collaboration with team members overseeing high-risk activities (e.g., waterfront, athletics)
- Medication Administration where necessary, utilizing the advisement of the RNs in the DEAN Adventure Camps’ PA location
- Maintain required first aid supplies by conducting regular checks and request restocking as needed
- Immediately report suspected communicable disease cases or outbreaks to the Site Director and DEAN Adventure Camps administration so the local health department can be notified per state requirements
- Organized & Reliable – You’re detail-oriented, proactive, and thrive on creating order in dynamic environments.
- Health & Safety Focused – You bring strong judgment, responsibility, and care when managing medications, first aid, and camper well-being.
- Excellent Communicator – You build trust through clear, compassionate communication with staff, families, and leadership.
- Flexible & Resourceful – You smoothly transition between administrative tasks, camper support, and hands-on camp needs.
- Calm Under Pressure – You stay grounded and solution-focused, helping your team navigate busy camp days with confidence.
- Team-Oriented Leader – You foster collaboration and positivity, ensuring every camper and counselor feels valued and supported.
- Friendly & Approachable – Experience working with children aged 3-16 years.
