Travel RN - Med/Tele/PCU Position Summary

CHI St. Alexius Health Bismarck Medical Center - Bismarck, ND

• Specialty: Med/Tele/PCU (Stepdown)
• Shift: 12-hour Nights (19:00 - 07:00)
• Schedule: Every other weekend, nights, first to float
• Number of Positions: 1
• Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week
• Orientation: 2x12-hour shifts (Friday & Saturday of first week)
• Trauma Level: Level 2

Unit Details - Med/Tele/PCU

• Total Beds: 32
• Nurse:Patient Ratio:
  • Med/Tele: 1:4-5 (occasional 1:5-6 on nights)
  • PCU level care overflow: 1:3
• EMR System: EPIC (preferred)
• Tele/Monitors: Portable monitors in rooms, central station monitor with tech oversight
• Scrubs: Any color

Required Qualifications & Experience

• MUST HAVE:
  • PCU experience REQUIRED
  • Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
  • Tele/Cardiac RN experience
• Preferred:
  • EPIC charting experience
• Certifications:
  • BLS (required)
  • ACLS (required)
• License: Active ND or Compact RN license required at submission
• BSN: Not required
• First-Time Travelers: OK with strong experience

Patient Population & Clinical Skills

• Population: Adults and Geriatrics
• Common Diagnoses:
  • Cardiac caths
  • EP studies
  • Pacemakers
  • ETOH withdrawal
  • COVID (BiPAP support)
  • General surgical (with cardiac history)
  • Medical patients with cardiac history
  • Pneumonia, COVID
  • Acute on chronic conditions
  • Influenza
  • Sepsis
• Drip Titration: Yes - Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, low-dose Dopamine (NO Levophed)
• RT Equipment:
  • BiPAP
  • Tracheostomy
  • Airvo (high-flow nasal cannula)
  • RNs troubleshoot as needed

Staffing Support

• Charge Nurse: On both shifts, occasionally takes light load (2-3 patients)
• Nursing Aides/PCTs: Yes (goal ratio 1:10)
• Tele Techs: Yes, stationed at nurses station
• RT: Available for respiratory equipment

Schedule Requirements

• Shift Times: 07:00-19:00 or 19:00-07:00
• Rotating Shifts: If rotating, 7-7 rotation will not occur more than weekly
• Weekends: Every other weekend
• Holidays: Every other holiday
• Manager-Created Schedule: Will consider blocked scheduling based on unit needs
• Call/Standby: None
• Floating:
  • All areas as "helping hands"
  • PCU for full patient load
  • MS for full assignment
  • ER holds/boarding
  • First to float (as noted in position title)
• RTO: 7 days or less per 13-week contract (must be included upfront; additional RTO will NOT be approved)

Orientation Schedule

• Duration: 2x12-hour shifts
• Timing: Friday and Saturday of first week
• Independence: On own by Sunday
