Assistant Athletic Director

The Assistant Athletic Director shall work with the Director of Athletics to provide leadership in the operation of the Howell Public Schools K-12 athletic programs. Candidates shall possess strong communication skills and be able to build relationships with stakeholders within the district including coaches, student athletes, administrators, teachers, and parents. Hours will vary and include some evenings and weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Have the ability to maintain a positive relationship with community leaders and stakeholders
• Conduct behavior to demonstrate collegiality and professionalism.
• Possess interest in, and knowledge of, all athletic activities.
• Assist in the coordination and scheduling of athletic events, including transportation and facility use.
• Be available for supervisory duties at events. Monitor and maintain participant, spectator and student discipline.
• Maintains regular predictable attendance.
• Monitor transportation and serve as liaison between coaches and the transportation department.
• Have a complete understanding and ability to adhere to HPS, SEC, and MHSAA athletic policies.
• Recommend new athletic policies as needed.
• Work with coaches to develop, implement and promote summer camps
• Arrange for publicity of the athletic programs including the ability to create promotional materials such as building visits, website updates, social media presence, posters, schedule cards, etc.
• Able to efficiently operate multiple computer programs used in the operations of athletic programs and facilities such as Eventlink, Arbiter, FinalForms, and FMX.
• Assist in the interviews of coaching candidates.
• Recommend new equipment, especially from a safety improvement perspective.
• Participate in athletic program staff meetings.
• Participate with the athletic director in special ceremonies (HOF, Signing day, etc.)
• Maintain positive public relations with parents.
• Occasionally represent the school in meetings with the Athletic Boosters.
• Employ responsible personnel for support services at all home athletic events.
• Responsible for working with coaches on athletic banquets and award nights.
• Responsible for maintenance of athletic facilities (fields, gym, stands, seats, etc.)
• Responsible for developing short and long term plans for athletic facility needs.
• Work with the athletic director to oversee, schedule, and supervise district athletic facilities.
• Other duties as assigned by the athletic director.
• In-person attendance is required.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree required.
• Minimum of three years of coaching experience preferred
• Experience with athletics administration or event management preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Position may include supervisory responsibilities over event staff, coaches, and advisors.

Qualifications/Skills:

• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
• Ability to operate a personal computer and related software including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs. (e.g. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs, etc.).
• Ability to create documents that are well organized and display information that is logical and graphically appealing.
• Ability to operate Google Office Platform, including Google email, sheets and slides.
• Self motivated and willing to learn.
• Ability to learn software and web-based programs as needed.
• Ability to seek and retrieve information from the internet and other sources.
• Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District Requirements and Board policies.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively, speaking clearly and communicating thoughts succinctly.
• Excellent grammatical, spelling and punctuation skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to coordinate hands, eyes, feet and limbs in performing semi-skilled movements such as operation of a computer keyboard, telephone, calculator and dictation equipment. The employee is occasionally required to exert light to medium physical effort in sedentary and light to medium work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, walking, standing, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distant vision and ability to adjust focus.

The work environment is normally indoors with controlled climate conditions. Terms:

Salary is within the $62,000 to $88,000 range depending on experience. Other benefits will be established by the Board of Education in accordance with benefits offered as detailed in the Howell Administration Association ("HAA") collective bargaining agreement.
