Senior Principal Counsel (Product Liability Litigation)

Job Title: Senior Principal Counsel (Product Liability Litigation) Employment Type: Full-Time About the Role: American Honda Motor Co., Inc. is seeking a Senior Principal Counsel in Torrance, CA. Serving in our Law & IP Litigation division, you will lead the nationwide defense of complex, high-exposure product liability lawsuits across Honda automobiles, ADAS technologies, powersports, and HondaJet aircraft. Key Responsibilities: Formulate and execute defense strategies for high-stakes product liability cases involving advanced automotive systems. Direct outside counsel, technical expert witnesses, and discovery teams through all phases of trial preparation and settlement. Provide proactive legal counsel to engineering, R&D, and quality divisions to mitigate liability risks in emerging technologies. Oversee litigation budgets, managing legal expenditures, outside counsel billing, and expert witness fees effectively. Monitor evolving federal regulations, state case law developments, and product liability precedents impacting Honda. Required Skills & Qualifications: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school with active admittance to the California State Bar. 5-6+ years of specialized product liability litigation experience, preferably within the automotive or mobility industry. Proven success managing complex, high-exposure litigation, technical depositions, and specialized expert testimony. Familiarity with automotive engineering principles, ADAS electronics, or safety defect litigation. Exceptional oral advocacy, strategic negotiation, and executive communication skills.
