Commercial HVAC Estimator

HVAC EstimatorThe HVAC Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and comprehensive cost estimates for commercial HVAC construction projects. This position reviews project plans, specifications, drawings, and related documentation to determine project scope, material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor requirements.Working collaboratively with project management, operations, procurement, vendors, and customers, the HVAC Estimator develops competitive proposals that support the bidding process and position projects for successful execution. This role requires strong technical knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, excellent analytical and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple estimates while meeting established deadlines.ResponsibilitiesReview project plans, specifications, drawings, and bid documents to define project scope, identify HVAC system requirements, and develop accurate estimating strategiesAnalyze blueprints, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation to determine equipment, material, labor, and subcontractor requirements necessary to develop complete and competitive estimatesConduct site visits as needed to evaluate existing conditions and gather information necessary for accurate estimatingPrepare detailed and accurate cost estimates, including equipment, materials, labor, subcontractors, rentals, and other project-related costs, while ensuring alignment with company standards and project requirementsDevelop complete bid proposals and pricing packages that align with project specifications, company standards, and overall bid strategyCollaborate with project managers, operations teams, and other internal stakeholders to ensure estimates are accurate, complete, and competitiveSolicit, review, and evaluate quotations from vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and scope alignmentIdentify potential project risks, value engineering opportunities, scheduling considerations, and cost-saving alternativesPrepare and present estimates, pricing summaries, and project assumptions to internal leadership and customers when appropriateParticipate in project turnover and handoff meetings to ensure a seamless transition from estimating to project executionStay current on HVAC equipment, installation methods, industry trends, manufacturer offerings, and applicable building codes and regulationsSupport continuous improvement initiatives within the estimating process to enhance efficiency, consistency, and accuracyDevelop and maintain positive working relationships with general contractors, owners, vendors, and subcontractors to support successful bidding opportunities and long-term partnershipsOpportunity for a flexible hybrid schedule after completing the initial training period and demonstrating proficiency in the roleRequirementsMinimum of 2 years of experience in commercial HVAC estimating or a related role within the mechanical contracting industry, with demonstrated success preparing competitive cost estimates, interpreting construction documents, and supporting the successful bidding of commercial HVAC projectsAssociate's degree, technical training, or certification in HVAC, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field is preferredStrong working knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, equipment, installation methods, and current industry best practicesAbility to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, mechanical drawings, and technical documentationExperience using estimating software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other construction management toolsExcellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skillsStrong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate and comprehensive estimatesExcellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and build strong working relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and project teamsAbility to prioritize competing deadlines, manage multiple estimates simultaneously, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environmentWorking knowledge of local, state, and federal building codes, regulations, and industry standards applicable to commercial HVAC systemsCommitment to teamwork, continuous improvement, and delivering accurate, high-quality work while supporting Oliver Mechanical's values of One Team, Pride in Our Trade, Be Better Than Yesterday, and Go the Extra MilePhysical RequirementsAbility to travel to customer and project sites as neededAbility to safely navigate active construction sites, including climbing stairs and ladders while following all company and site safety requirementsAbility to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 poundsAbility to sit, stand, walk, and work at a computer for extended periods throughout the workdayJoin our team and become part of a dynamic and growing company that values its employees and provides opportunities for professional growth.
