Responsibilities Operate radiologic equipment to produce radiographs (x‑rays) for diagnostic purposes. Perform routine, portable, operating room, or fluoroscopic examinations. Perform complex radiographic procedures and provide guidance to lower‑level R Technologists and students. Position patients, adjust equipment to produce high‑quality x‑rays, and explain procedures to patients. Takes precautions to minimize staff and patient exposure to radiation. Assist in training radiology staff and students. Assist in radiology quality assurance and quality improvement activities. Effectively communicate with patients, families, and other health‑care team members. Keep patients and families abreast of patient progress. Explain procedures to patients/families to reduce anxiety and obtain cooperation. Assist with patient/family education. Assume and provide patient care for radiologic procedures. Anticipate potential patient crises by continually evaluating patients during procedures. Set up procedure rooms, including equipment and supplies. Assist with and perform multiple radiologic procedures within an appropriate timeframe. Ensure that patients have been prepared for procedures. Complete all aspects of patient care documentation following established charting procedures. Complete procedures in Radiology Information System to ensure billing of exams/procedures. Participate in performance improvement data collection. Follow all safety requirements of the hospital and department. Practice radiation protection techniques using beam‑restrictive devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors to minimize radiation to patients and staff. Use personal protective equipment as required. May participate on safety committee. Operate, mobilize, and position equipment properly. Set exposure factors and use appropriate techniques and protocols. Be responsible for safe operation of radiologic equipment. Clean equipment and stock procedure rooms. Troubleshoot equipment problems and advise supervisor of mult Minimum Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association. Minimum of one (1) year of experience. Physical Requirements Lift 20–50 lbs (0–33% of work day), 11–25 lbs (34–66% of work day), 0–10 lbs (67–100% of work day). Max lift 50 lbs. Tasks include occasional to frequent standing, walking, occasional sitting, close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing). Physical demands may vary. Environmental Factors Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens, bio‑hazardous waste, chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting, radiation. Shift work, travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, may be necessary. Additional Details Emory is an equal‑opportunity employer.
