Job Description

CDR General Services is seeking an experienced STICK Welder (SMAW) to join our team in Port Allen, LA. The ideal candidate will have hands-on welding experience in a shipyard, dry dock, marine, or barge environment and be comfortable performing structural repairs and fabrication on vessels, barges, and other marine equipment. Candidates must be able to perform quality welds in multiple positions while following established safety and quality standards.

Pay Rate: $25.00–$28.00 per hour, depending on experience (DOE)

Key Responsibilities

Perform STICK welding (SMAW) on carbon steel and other materials.
Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
Perform structural repairs and fabrication on vessels, barges, and other marine equipment.
Fabricate and repair structural components, including hulls, decks, frames, and bulkheads.
Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and job specifications.
Prepare and clean welding surfaces using grinders, torches, and other tools.
Perform visual inspections of completed welds to ensure quality and compliance with marine standards.
Safely use and maintain welding equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
Work safely at heights, over water, outdoors, and in confined spaces as required.
Follow OSHA, company, and shipyard safety procedures.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.

Qualifications

Previous hands-on STICK/SMAW welding experience required.
Previous shipyard, dry dock, marine, barge repair, or similar industrial welding experience strongly preferred.
Ability to weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
Experience performing structural welding, fabrication, and repair work.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and job specifications.
Experience using grinders, torches, welding equipment, and other fabrication tools.
Strong attention to weld quality and safety.
Ability to work outdoors and in industrial/marine environments.
Comfortable working at heights, over water, and in confined spaces as required.
Dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
