Staff Physical Therapist

Under the supervision of the Client Director, the Staff Therapist is accountable for administering Physical Therapy to patients from pediatric to geriatric. The goal of therapy is to improve the patient's functional ability. Meets the patient's goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results. Determines physical therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription. Helps patients accomplish treatment plans and accept therapeutic devices by administering manual exercises. Instructs, encourages, and assists patients in performing physical activities, such as non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, and daily living activities. Administers physical therapy treatments by giving massages, initiating traction, applying physical agents, and utilizing hydrotherapy tanks. Directs treatments given by aides, technicians, and assistants. Evaluates effects of physical therapy treatments and fit of prosthetic and orthotic devices by observing and noting patient's progress. Recommends adjustments and modifications as needed. Completes discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare workers. Contributes to patient care conferences for comprehensive care. Assures continuation of therapeutic plans following discharge by designing home exercise programs. Instructs patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs and recommends assistive equipment. Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records. Maintains patient confidentiality to protect hospital operations. Ensures a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols to protect patients and employees. Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications. Develops physical therapy staff by providing information and conducting in-service training programs. Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation. Anticipates future legislation and enforces adherence to requirements. Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.
