About the Position

TravelNurseSource is working with Cynet Health to find a qualified ICU/Critical Care RN in Freeport, Illinois, 61032!

Job Title: ICU Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours (7a-7p) Experience: Minimum 2 years in an ICU setting License: Must have required state license Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Experience as a Code Blue Command RN - Phlebotomy skills are a plus - Previous travel nursing experience preferred - Experience with Meditech is a plus Description: The ICU department consists of 8 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2-3, with some patients being lower acuity. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS. Common diagnoses treated include sepsis, general medical issues, general surgical cases, stroke management, DKA, pneumonia, and alcohol withdrawal. Post-cath recovery is performed through radial and femoral sites. There is no cardiovascular operating room involvement, and CRRT is not utilized. In rare cases, if a balloon pump is present, core staff would assume responsibility. ICU nurses are expected to run codes in the facility. During a code, other ICU nurses provide coverage. Telehealth services are provided, allowing additional nursing support. The unit primarily focuses on primary care nursing. Nurses are required to titrate various medications, including Levo, Neo, Propofol, Fentanyl, Precedex, and Insulin. Medication mixing is also part of the role. Charge nurses take assignments while nursing supervisors maintain patient-free status. Care support staff, including unit secretaries and CNAs, are available when the acuity warrants it. There are hospitalists available 24/7 during the day. Respiratory therapy equipment is available on the unit. Nurses are responsible for monitoring telehealth strips as there are no dedicated monitor technicians. Shifts are based on staffing needs and patient census. Nurses are scheduled during peak shift times. Every other weekend and holiday rotation are required. Floating to Med-Surg, Tele, and ER units is necessary, with a full patient load. Scrub color is professional and can be any color. Specific orientation is provided through 2 shifts focused on department needs. All travelers should disclose any previous employment within this system on their resume.
