POSITION SUMMARY:

The Optometric Technician is responsible for providing direct and indirect patient care in the clinic under the direction and supervision of the Health Center Administrator. The Optometric Technician is expected to conduct pre-screening exams, process patient information and maintain the operation of the examination room. This position requires strong team work and communication skills.

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School graduate or GED
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program from an accredited school and/or Optometric Technician Program or equivalent experience
• BLS Certification
• Experience preferred
• Computer literacy

RESPONSIBILTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Be familiar with CFHC's program philosophies, goals and objectives. Be cognizant of and comply with all CFHC's policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations.
2. Be competent in performing the duties of a medical assistant.
3. Understand the requirements of CFHC's Exposure Control Plan. Personally, utilize universal precautions when practicing in a clinical setting.
4. Participate in staff outreach and off-site health care programs as requested by the Health Center Administrator, COM or CEO. Represent CFHC in the community.
5. Report as needed to Health Center Administrator any pertinent information or situations that impact on patient care or CFHC liability.
6. Attend and participate in mandatory CFHC meetings (Center Specific meetings, Corporate meetings, and other meetings as designated by the COO or CEO).
7. Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively with other members of the patient care team. Be supportive of coworkers.
8. Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
9. Carry out any other activities deemed appropriate by the health center administrator, COO or CEO.
10. Conducts pre-screening exam/testing.
11. Maintain clean, hygienic work area and exam room.
12. Completes patient visual history.
13. Prepares referrals, follow-up paperwork and associated tasks.
14. Assist in ordering of eyewear and repairs and adjustments of eyewear.
15. Assist in helping patients select their frames according to their insurance allowance.
16. Assist in dispensing of eyewear and maintain proper inventory.
17. Acknowledge/greet patients and process patients in accordance with CFHC's patient flow model.
18. Knowledge of Athena processes, IDCOP, Sliding Fee Scale, HIPAA, Joint Commission, Medical Record policy, scheduling, patient rights and grievance processes.
19. Create new patient account. Retrieve established patient accounts from Athena.
20. Gather pertinent data on all patients: demographics, financial, educational and occupational (migrant/seasonal, other).
21. Knowledge of verification of insurance coverage, run/check Eligibility obtains authorizations as needed. (Medipass or HMO's)
22. Collect appropriate money for visit per sliding fee scale and Co-Payments
23. Review accuracy and completeness of claim at end of visit. Data entry, diagnosis codes, and money collected.
24. Schedule new and follow-up appointments as needed.
25. Maintain cash drawers. Complete end of day Daily Summary Sheet and balance activities for the day run the reports (Billing Summary, Individual users and all users report)
26. All AMA's will be cross-trained in all areas of medical and dental services.
27. Follow all protocols associated with CFHC being a patient centered medical home i.e. Web enabling patients into the patient portal and identifying which patients are having a transition in their care.
28. Complete reports as requested by management.
29. Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Requires 80% or more time spent sitting/standing/walking.
2. Independently mobile.
3. Ability to lift weight equivalents that would be required with occasionally assisting and positioning patients, repositioning equipment, and lifting supplies.
4. Ability to adapt and function in varying environments of workload, patient acuity, worksites, and work shifts.
