Assistant Service Manager - Agriculture Equipment Dealer

We are seeking an experienced and customer-focused Assistant Service Manager to support daily service department operations at a leading agricultural equipment dealership. This position will help drive service performance, technician productivity, workflow efficiency, and customer satisfaction while supporting the development of a high-performing service team.

Key Responsibilities

Service Operations

• Support daily service department operations to maximize efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
• Monitor technician productivity, workflow, and repair progress to ensure timely completion of service jobs.
• Assist with service scheduling and efficient utilization of technicians and resources.
• Identify and implement process improvements that reduce downtime, improve repair quality, and increase labor efficiency.
• Oversee service work orders from creation through completion and invoicing.

Customer Service

• Deliver an exceptional customer experience through timely communication and quality service.
• Address and resolve customer service concerns professionally and efficiently.
• Partner with service writers, technicians, and management to meet and exceed customer expectations.

Team Leadership & Development

• Assist with recruiting, onboarding, training, and retention of service personnel.
• Coach and develop technicians to improve technical skills and career progression.
• Monitor employee training and support completion of manufacturer and company training programs.
• Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance support to team members.
• Promote a positive, accountable, and collaborative work environment.

Performance & Process Management

• Monitor key service department metrics, including:
• Customer satisfaction
• Labor sales and profitability
• Work-in-process (WIP)
• Technician productivity
• Staffing and resource utilization
• Identify opportunities to improve service efficiency and profitability.
• Support the effective use of dealership management systems and service management software.

Required Qualifications

• 1-3 years of leadership experience in a dealership, service department, repair facility, or similar operational environment.
• Strong leadership, coaching, and team-development abilities.
• Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced service environment.
• Basic computer skills and experience using business systems or software.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with agricultural, construction, heavy equipment, trucking, automotive, powersports, or related industries.
• Understanding of service department operations, technician workflow, scheduling, and repair processes.
• Knowledge of service profitability, labor recovery, technician productivity, and WIP management.
• Experience with dealership management systems or service management software.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, push, and pull as required.
• Ability to perform administrative and computer-based work throughout the day.
• Comfortable working in an environment that may include noise, dust, fumes, temperature variations, and equipment traffic.
