Position Title: Assistant Director of Prevention

Status: Full-Time / Exempt

Reports To: Strategy Officer/Director of Prevention

Location: Portland, OR. This role is intended to be hybrid and requires the ability to come to the main Lines for Life office for meetings, etc.

Salary: $73,000 - $83,000 annually, depending on experience and licensure. Please see the compensation package below for more details on the benefits package.

About the Organization: Lines for Life is a regional non-profit that is dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide. We offer help and hope to individuals and communities and promote mental health for all. Our work addresses a spectrum of needs that include intervention, prevention, and advocacy. We educate, train, and advocate to prevent issues of substance abuse, mental illness, and thoughts of suicide from reaching crisis levels. But when a crisis arises or support is needed, we are available 24/7/365 to intervene with personalized help.

Assistant Director of Prevention Position Summary: The Assistant Director of Prevention Programs supports the growth, coordination, and long-term sustainability of Lines for Life’s prevention programs, helping translate prevention strategy into effective, community-centered practice. With a focus on suicide prevention, substance use prevention, and mental health promotion, this role works closely with members of multiple teams to guide program planning, support implementation, strengthen community partnerships, and ensure prevention initiatives are well-coordinated, impactful, and aligned with organizational priorities. Assistant Director of Prevention Essential Duties

• Support the development and implementation of prevention strategies that advance Lines for Life’s mission and strengthen community impact.
• Help build sustainable systems, processes, and infrastructure to support scalable prevention programs.
• Supervise assigned Prevention staff, including regular one-on-one supervision, work assignment and prioritization, performance feedback, annual evaluations, timesheet review where applicable, and professional development.
• Promote healthy, well-coordinated team dynamics to ensure staff, projects, and resources are aligned around shared goals.
• Coordinate with community partners, coalitions, public agencies, schools, healthcare systems, and other stakeholders to advance suicide prevention and substance use prevention initiatives.
• Ensures strong administrative infrastructure for team operations, including agendas, calendars, documentation, and communication systems.
• Support the planning and implementation of suicide prevention initiatives that build community capacity, increase awareness, and strengthen protective factors.
• Provide comprehensive project management support as needed.
• Develop meaningful interdepartmental collaborations to support effective and integrated prevention work.
• Support program evaluation, quality improvement, and use of data to strengthen program outcomes.
• Participate with grant development, writing, reporting, and sustainability planning for prevention programs.
• Participate in fiscal oversight, budget planning, and resource alignment for prevention initiatives.
• Regularly attend and actively participate in organization-wide Leadership meetings.
• Represent Lines for Life in community meetings, conferences, coalitions, trainings, and other prevention-related settings.

Assistant Director of Prevention Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Knowledge of suicide prevention, substance use prevention, mental health promotion, public health, behavioral health, or related fields.
• Experience supporting community-based prevention efforts, coalitions, partnerships, or cross-sector initiatives.
• Five or more years of progressive experience in leadership, management, program development, or related work.
• Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, supervise, and support staff.
• Strong facilitation, training, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Strong project management skills.
• Experience developing systems, processes, or program infrastructure to support effective service delivery.
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, external partners, funders, community groups, and public agencies.
• Commitment to equity, cultural responsiveness, and community-centered prevention work.

Assistant Director of Prevention Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a related field.
• Licensure in a related field (i.e. LCSW, LPC).
• Experience with strategic program development, prevention program design, or public health initiatives.
• Familiarity with key partners, coalitions, systems, and prevention efforts in Oregon.
• Experience with grant-funded programs, program evaluation, budget monitoring, and fiscal oversight.
• Experience supporting suicide prevention initiatives, substance use prevention initiatives, or behavioral health promotion efforts.
• Familiarity with Monday.com project management software.

Compensation: $73,000 - $84,448 annually, depending on experience and licensure.
