Job Summary:

The Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin is seeking an academic Nephrologist at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to join our team on either the Clinical Track (CT) or the Clinical Health Services (CHS) Track. This position includes responsibilities in both general nephrology and transplant nephrology. The successful candidate will provide inpatient and consultative care on our transplant services, as well as coverage for general nephrology consult services. Additional expectations include contributing to patient care through research collaborations, participating in the teaching of learners, and engaging in other scholarly activities.

This position is full or part time, 80%-100%

• This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.
• This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations.
• The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.
• Applicants for this position will be considered for the titles: Associate Professor (CT or CHS), or Assistant Professor (CT or CHS). The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.

Key Job Responsibilities:

• 70-80%; Clinical responsibilities include 3 half-day clinics per week at UW Health approved locations, participation in the transplant inpatient coverage schedule, performing inpatient and outpatient transplant kidney biopsies and one full-day clinic per month at a regional site. Duties in general nephrology are also included in this position.
• 20-30%; Academic expectations include protected time to develop and teach a research or education program and to engage in related scholarly activity.
• Our providers participate in clinical teaching of fellows, residents and medical students, and support the teaching and clinical research missions of the division and department.
• Physicians hired on the Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) track will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

The division provides high-value patient care, promotes innovative research and fosters top nephrologists of the future.

A trusted name in nephrology, our faculty provide pre- and post-transplant care for patients in the UW Health kidney transplant program, one of the most active and successful in the nation. With 64 paired kidney exchanges in 2020, our center has one of the nation's largest living kidney donation programs. Our program's success has also secured philanthropic support. Division faculty and Rheumatology colleagues lead a dedicated lupus nephritis clinic, the first in Wisconsin and fifth in the nation. The multidisciplinary team coordinates care so that patients can receive same-day evaluations, diagnostic tests, infusions, education and care coordination-all in one place.

In the Division of Nephrology, the scope of clinical care encompasses all stages of kidney disease-from the earliest detectable changes in kidney function through end-stage renal disease-and the full range of conditions, including chronic kidney disease, kidney stone disease, glomerular disease, autoimmune disorders and inherited disorders such as polycystic kidney disease. Our outpatient dialysis program offers state-of-the-art hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and home hemodialysis services. Our commitment to quality care means that U.S. News & World Report ranks the UW Health kidney failure program as a top performer.

The Division of Nephrology has an active research program, with strong interest in pursuing clinical, translational and basic research questions in nephrology and transplantation. There are a number of ongoing studies in many aspects of kidney disease, including interventional nephrology, transplantation, and general nephrology.

Compensation:

Negotiable, 12 months.

Required Qualifications:

• Board certification or board eligibility in Nephrology and Transplant Nephrology is required by the appointment start date.
• American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Certification required.
• Candidate is required to have a Wisconsin medical license by the appointment start date.
• Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges by the appointment start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in an academic medical setting preferred.
• For an appointment as Associate Professor on CHS Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate Professor on the CHS Track.
• Clinical and research responsibilities with interest in transplant nephrology.

MD, DO, or equivalent is required
