AI Product Engineer

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field

• 3-5+ years of relevant professional experience in software engineering, application development, AI/ML engineering or a related technical field

• Computer and standard office technology

o Claude Code; GitHub; Google Workspace; Google Cloud Platform (GCP); and other software development, AI, cloud computing, and collaboration tools as required

• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences

• Highest priority: Python (primary back-end language), computer vision, and PyTorch, ideally with experience deploying complete computer vision solutions into production.

• Ability to learn and adapt quickly to evolving AI technologies, development tools, and organizational needs

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Strong plus: Google Cloud, OpenCV, and experience deploying models on NVIDIA GPUs.

• Additional pluses: Docker, Linux, TypeScript, React, SQL, and related development frameworks.

• Valuable experience: Working with protected health information (PHI).

Job Description

Insight Global is seeking an AI Product Engineer to support a leading healthcare nonprofit in Indianapolis, IN. The AI Product Engineer will bridge the technical gap between the organization’s mission and the technical execution of a new AI product. The person will build and troubleshoot directly but also work with outside vendors to polish and help package the product for commercial use.

This role will be hybrid and require you to be on campus in Indianapolis at minimum 3 days per week

Day-to-Day:

Designs, develops, tests, deploys, and maintains code supporting organization’s AI product stack, including data pipelines, model integrations, APIs, application logic, and other supporting systems

Monitors and improves the reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability of AI-enabled applications and supporting infrastructure

Identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves bugs, system issues, and technical debt, including improving or refactoring code and systems inherited from previous development work

Independently prototypes, develops, tests, and ships new AI product features and enhancements based on organizational and user needs

Evaluates technical approaches and makes practical engineering decisions that balance product needs, maintainability, scalability, security, and speed of delivery

Serves as an internal technical resource and point of contact for AI products, systems, integrations, and related development work

Partners with external technology vendors and translates technical discussions, requirements, limitations, and recommendations into clear information for non-technical leaders and staff

Collaborates with internal stakeholders to translate business needs and workflow challenges into technical requirements and product solutions

Creates and maintains clear technical documentation for code, architecture, integrations, configurations, processes, and key technical decisions to ensure institutional knowledge remains within the organization

Contributes to the technical roadmap for AI products by identifying priorities, technical dependencies, system improvements, risks, and future development opportunities

Reviews existing systems and recommends improvements to architecture, development practices, tools, and processes that support long-term product sustainability

Stays current on emerging AI technologies, development tools, frameworks, and industry practices and evaluates their potential application within organization’s AI products

Maintains appropriate data privacy, security, access, and responsible AI practices throughout the development and maintenance of AI-enabled products

Utilizes data collection in relation to driving and tracking outcomes and achieving Agency initiatives and goals Adheres to all policies and procedures as defined in the Employee Handbook and Organization Operational Policies and Procedures Manual

Supports the successful implementation, adoption, and ongoing development of organization’s AI products across the organization

Develops and enhances AI products with a focus on scalability, reliability, security, usability, and long-term commercialization potential

Partners with organizational leaders and key stakeholders to achieve established product implementation, development, and commercialization milestones

Performs other duties as assigned
