Summary The Maintenance Mechanic/Site Safety & Health Officer at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas performs general maintenance of buildings and equipment and serves as the Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) responsible for all O&M activities at the site. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Replace electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors. Replace filters, belts, and other components. Use plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings. Repair or replace sinks, water coolers, and toilets. Paint structures and equipment. Repair or replace concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks. Replace damaged paneling and floor tiles. Hang doors and install door locks; assist with lockouts, battery changes, and rekeying cards. Replace broken windowpanes. Perform general maintenance on equipment and machinery. Work flexible schedules, including on‑call rotations, occasional overtime, and some weekend work. Perform other duties as required or requested. Education and/or Experience Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent GED plus a minimum of three (3) years of general mechanical, electrical, carpentry, or maintenance experience within the past four years. Completion of a technical/vocational school in general maintenance skills or comparable training such as military/industry experience may serve as an equivalent substitute. A valid Georgia driver’s license and the ability to maintain military gate‑pass access are required. Experience performing preventative maintenance on equipment and machinery and responding to and completing repairs on demand maintenance orders (DMOs) is required. Physical Demands Frequent standing, walking, sitting, use of hands for finger, handling, or feeling, reaching with hands and arms, and talking or hearing. Occasional climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Occasionally lifting more than 50 pounds. Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment Work environment requires on‑call rotation. Exposure to noise, dirt, dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold, heat, and inclement weather.
