Patient Access Referral Specialist

Randstad is hiring a Patient Access Referral Specialist position for a hospital located in the midtown/downtown area of Memphis. This role is in-office; Monday - Friday; 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Responsibilities

• Evaluate diagnostic needs, verify patient clinical documentation, and route referrals directly to specialty clinics and diagnostic centers.
• Contact third-party insurance payers (MCOs, HMOs, PPOs) to submit, track, and secure timely authorizations and pre-certifications.
• Verify that referral orders include accurate CPT and ICD coding, maintaining complete and audit-ready data in the electronic referral tracking system.
• Align specialty clinic availability with patient schedules, proactively communicate appointment requirements, and arrange necessary patient transit assistance when needed.
• Monitor pending consult notes and test results, ensuring provider reports and discharge summaries are received, reviewed, and filed within established timeframes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology and standard computer applications to communicate comfortably with insurance representatives.
• Direct, prior experience securing referral authorizations with MCO, HMO, or PPO payers.
• Hands-on familiarity with ICD and CPT coding protocols.
• Experience operating electronic health records (EHR) systems in high-volume clinic or hospital environments.
