Community Engagement Specialist (Bilingual English-Spanish)

Wider Circle is looking for a Community Engagement Specialist in Newark, New Jersey to join our circle and play a vital role in running Connect for Life, our groundbreaking program that connects neighbors for better health, empowering them to live longer, healthier lives while finding joy in one another’s company. They will tirelessly utilize any means necessary to connect and engage with members, including in‑person group events, one‑on‑one home visits, and telephone outreach. Responsibilities Lead the Connect For Life program, utilizing Wider Circle’s developed curriculum to build trust and promote health. Plan and host both virtual and in‑person events that foster relationships among members and contribute to positive wellness outcomes. This includes venue search, preparation, and outreach to confirm attendance. Proactively contact members to ensure participation in chapter events and group activities, conduct one‑on‑one home visits, and facilitate monthly engagement. Meet monthly engagement requirements, member attendance and help members solve care needs. Record member interactions (all outreach, attendance, and attempts to contact) in Wider Circle’s online digital systems in a timely manner. Identify natural leaders within the community and invite them to serve as Wider Circle Ambassadors to enhance connections and event coordination. Connect with potential members, develop personalized enrollment plans via phone, one‑on‑one in‑person engagement, or at events. Serve as a liaison, connecting members to their health plans and to each other, and support them with health‑care services, appointments, and closing care gaps. Hold yourself accountable for achieving membership engagement and growth goals, monitoring success through metrics such as attendance and feedback. Track and report hours worked remotely. Physical Demands Safely drive up to 30 miles away from home. Frequently carry up to 30 pounds of supplies. Stand, speak publicly, and project voice in indoor and outdoor spaces. Sit, stand, and walk to interact with members for each event. See and hear well to interact by phone and in person. Use a computer to enter and update information. Communicate effectively with members in person or virtually. Qualifications & Skills Team player willing to collaborate and provide leadership when needed. Proactive, taking initiative on community engagement. Adaptable to a fast‑paced, changing environment. 3+ years in community outreach, teaching, or facilitation; healthcare experience is a plus. Associate’s degree preferred; 5+ years of relevant experience may be considered instead of a degree. Experience building or supporting a community of 500+ members. Strong organizational skills—prioritize, stay organized, follow commitments. Tech savvy; comfortable with web‑based and app‑based systems. Independent worker able to perform tasks remotely with little supervision. Reliable transportation for home visits, willing to travel 20‑50 miles. Flexible schedule, available outside regular business hours when needed. Willingness to complete pre‑employment drug testing and background checks. Ideal Candidate Passionate about helping others and building relationships. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Outgoing, positive, and able to engage people in person and virtually. Strong networking and leadership skills, with experience guiding peers. Compensation Competitive hourly pay of $23.36 – $25.09 per hour.
