The primary role of the Work-Based Learning & Community Engagement Specialist (“Site Coordinator”) will be to design and coordinate core workforce development activities and work closely with teachers and industry, post‑secondary, and community partners to provide students access to real world learning opportunities. This includes opportunities for career exploration and more advanced workforce development activities year‑round in the fields of health, life sciences, and other STEM‑aligned career paths. Essential Duties The duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to the job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive or exhaustive list. Continuously recruit, onboard and support business, industry, and community partners to provide quality work‑based learning (WBL) experiences for each student at the MBH Act as a liaison between students, teachers, and industry to connect people and resources Align efforts and systems with local community‑based organizations, partner institutions (e.g. UCSF), teachers, and other parties to ensure smooth and aligned communication, recruitment, onboarding, implementation, and capacity building strategies for industry and community partners. Lead Areas MBH Academic Year Program: Coordinate industry, post‑secondary, and community partner involvement in major work‑based learning activities (e.g. job shadow days, extended field experience, mentorships) Summer Programming at the Mission Bay Hub: Design and coordinate core program in collaboration with program partners Supplemental Programming: Coordinate additional extension experiences for students not in the primary school‑year program Co‑design and coordinate advanced programming and workforce development activities (e.g. internship rotations, early college/certifications, research mentorships) Other Site Coordination Activities Help coordinate Community events and student exhibitions Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support Mission Bay Hub operations and positive student outcomes. The strongest candidates will have Knowledge of/Experience with: San Francisco’s public schools/urban public schools and working with diverse youth San Francisco’s health, life science, and STEM sector including UCSF and other private and public workforce development partners Characteristics of high quality work‑based learning and how to best leverage it to support deeper learning and workforce development Skills/Abilities: Strong verbal, written, facilitation, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with a wide range of partners, including personnel from business and industry partners, City agencies, community‑based organizations (CBOs), students, teachers, and the school district Work independently and as a team; taking initiative and often creating structure from ambiguity Plan, organize and use resources to take action and achieve long and short term goals Strong digital literacy including Google Suite and marketing/communications tools Core Attitudes, Beliefs, Values, and Practices: Focuses on student assets instead of deficits, believing all students can and want to learn, holding high expectations of each and every student Belief in SFUSD’s commitment to instructional leadership as a lever toward delivering on the SFUSD Graduate Profile Embraces challenges and focuses on solutions in context of program development and uncertainty Brings flexibility, creativity, and open‑mindedness to Hub development and implementation Practices self‑reflection and is open to giving and receiving feedback Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (B.A. / B.S.) from an accredited college or university AND Three (3) years of verifiable experience in community relations, workforce development, business/industry outreach, marketing or similar closely related experience OR An equivalent combination of training and experience What We Offer SFUSD offers a competitive salary of $102,918 - $125,112/annually commensurate with experience in a similar position.
