Histology Technician

Location: Charleston, SC

This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule

Night shift, Sunday - Thursday from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM.

Job Description

Under direct supervision, the Histology Technician performs routine and complex histologic procedures including, but not limited to, processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and special stains, and immunohistochemistry. The position involves performing quality control on completed slides, identifying problems that may affect diagnosis and results, recording observations from tests, and documenting maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab while complying with established laboratory policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine and complex histologic procedures.
• Process and embed specimens for microtomy.
• Perform routine and special stains, including immunohistochemistry.
• Maintain and document laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Conduct quality control assessments on completed slides.
• Report and document any issues affecting diagnosis and results.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• 3-5 years of full-time experience in histotechnology required.
• Experience with embedding and microtomy skills is essential.
• BLS certification required.
• HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification is required.
• Bachelor's degree in histotechnology, biology, or related scientific discipline is preferred.
