Job Summary
Theconstructionskilledlaborerhelpsthepipelayerbyperformingdutiesrequiringtechnicalexperience.Dutiesincludeassistingwithlayingpipeforstormorsanitationsewers,drains, andwatermains.S/hemayassistintheperformanceofanycombinationofthefollowingtasks:gradetrenchesorculverts, position pipe,orsealjoints. Inadditiontoassistingpipelayers,theskilledlaboreralsoworksdiggingtrenchesfor/aroundexistingutilities,manuallyhelpwithensuringappropriategrading, andmovematerials/tools.Theskilledlaborerplaysamajordaytodayroletokeepworksitescleanandcompliant.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Cleanorprepareconstructionsitestoeliminatepossiblehazardsandprepareforplacementofaggregates,road/substrate,orutilities.
- Signalequipmentoperatorstoalign,moveoradjustmachinery,equipment,ormaterials
- Load,unload, and/oridentifymaterialsandtools
- Digditchesortrenchesfor/aroundexistingutilities, back-fillexcavations, grade andleveltrenches; mayusetampingmachine and/orhandtools. NOTE: May betrainedtooperatesomeheavierequipment.
- Performsgeneralconstructionwork(usinghandtools,liftingmaterialsonaverageupto50pounds)underdirectionofPipe Layer, Crew Leader,ForemanorSupervisor.
- Mayperformflaggingdutiestocontrol andmaintainflowoftrafficinworkzone.
- Performotherduties, as andwhenassigned.
- Undersupervisionofpipelayersorsupervision,mayusetoolstoverifygrading/levelsurface.
- Assistinaligningpipesmanuallyduringpipelineconstruction(generallyforwetutilities[water/sewer]).
- Assisttoconnectpipes andsealjointsusingglue,cement,gasketsand/orflanges.
Qualifications
- Musthavephysicalabilitytostandstrenuousanddangerousworkenvironment. Must becomfortableworkingin 15ft -20fttrenchesandotherconfinedspaces.
- Hasphysicalstrengthdigandperformgeneral laborwithlaborercrews,includingdiggingbyhandandlifting/pushing/pullingmaterials.
- Abletocommunicateeffectivelywithothersandworkcooperativelyinteams(includingresolvingbasicconflictswithorwithouttheassistanceofmanagement).
- Handleemergencysituations,workpressureand stress.
- Abletosolvebasic,common - senseproblemsusingexperienceandconstructionknowledge.
- Musthavea flexibleschedule(makeworkirregularoroddhoursinoutdoorworksites,dependinguponprojectneedsorweather),includingnightsandweekends.
- Musthaveaccesstoowntransportationtoreachnon - standardworksitesduringnon -standardhours.
