Cable Technician

Position Overview

We are seeking a High Voltage Electrical Technician to support the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of high voltage electrical systems at commercial, industrial, and utility job sites.

This role is ideal for candidates with hands-on electrical experience who are looking to deepen their expertise in high voltage systems, including power distribution, substations, and industrial electrical infrastructure.

The High Voltage Technician will work alongside experienced electricians and engineers to safely install, test, and maintain energized systems. This position requires strong attention to safety, technical aptitude, and the ability to work in physically demanding and high-risk environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of high voltage electrical systems (480V and above)
• Support the setup and operation of power distribution equipment, transformers, switchgear, and substations
• Perform cable pulling, routing, and terminations for high voltage power cables
• Assist with testing and troubleshooting electrical systems using meters, testing equipment, and diagnostic tools
• Support energization and commissioning activities under supervision
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and one-line diagrams
• Assist with grounding, bonding, and proper equipment installation practices
• Maintain compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and all electrical safety standards
• Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and ensure safe work practices around energized systems
• Maintain clean and organized job sites and properly stage materials and tools
• Work closely with electricians, foremen, and engineers to complete project tasks

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in electrical, construction, or industrial environments
• Exposure to high voltage or medium voltage electrical systems (480V+)
• Ability to work around energized electrical equipment safely
• Basic understanding of electrical theory and power distribution systems
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
• Ability to follow directions and work under supervision in high-risk environments
• Strong commitment to safety and compliance standards
• Reliable transportation to job sites

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working on substations, power plants, or industrial electrical systems
• Electrical apprenticeship, trade school training, or related certification
• Familiarity with switchgear, transformers, relays, and protective systems
• OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E, or other electrical safety certifications
• Experience with testing equipment (megger, multimeter, relay testing tools, etc.)
• Experience working on construction or utility-scale electrical projects

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb ladders for extended periods
• Ability to work at heights, in substations, and around energized equipment
• Ability to work in outdoor environments and active construction sites
• Ability to work in varying weather conditions and potentially hazardous environments
