Retail Store Manager

The role This is Tone Deaf Studios' first permanent store, and you will be our first Store Manager. We are looking for someone who can start as soon as they are available. Joining before the September 12 opening will give you time to become familiar with the brand, product, customers, and team while helping with the final stages of store preparation. You will work closely with the founder on merchandising, product education, hiring, training, customer experience, and the store's commercial goals. By opening day, you should feel confident representing the brand and ready to lead the sales team and daily store operation. Much of the store planning and business infrastructure is already underway. We are looking for someone who can bring experienced retail judgment to that work, help refine the details, and make the operation function well on the floor. During the store's first days, weeks, and months, you will pay close attention to what customers and the team need. You will help us adjust quickly, develop strong habits, and establish a consistent standard for sales and hospitality. You will be the sales associates' day-to-day manager. That includes scheduling, onboarding, training, coaching, coverage, and routine staff communication. What you'll do Help recruit, onboard, and train the store's first sales associate team. Become deeply familiar with the Tone Deaf brand, product, fit, construction, and customer before opening day. Assist with the final stages of store preparation and team readiness. Manage scheduling, attendance, call-outs, and shift coverage. Lead daily store operations, including opening and closing, POS procedures, cash handling, inventory, receiving, and store upkeep. Set a warm, knowledgeable standard for customer service. Lead from the sales floor and coach the team on selling, styling, product knowledge, and hospitality. Work with the founder on visual merchandising, product presentation, launches, and store events. Respond to store traffic, inventory levels, customer behavior, and sales performance. Maintain accurate inventory and resolve discrepancies. Communicate recurring customer questions and product feedback to the founder. Track sales performance and share clear weekly observations about the store. Help refine store procedures as the team gains experience. What we're looking for 3+ years of experience in fashion, premium, luxury, or specialty retail. Experience supervising, training, or managing a retail team. Strong personal sales ability and experience coaching others. A genuine instinct for hospitality and an ability to read the customer in front of you. Working knowledge of scheduling, inventory, POS systems, cash handling, visual merchandising, and retail reporting. Good judgment and the ability to solve everyday store problems calmly. Strong organization and clear communication. An interest in product construction, styling, independent fashion, and the work behind a garment. Availability to work a retail schedule, including weekends and selected holidays. Strong familiarity with the Lower East Side is important, especially the culture and retail atmosphere of Orchard Street. You should understand the neighborhood's mix of independent brands, local regulars, destination shoppers, restaurants, art, and nightlife. The store should feel connected to Orchard Street rather than like a generic luxury boutique placed there. You do not need to be an expert in retail analytics or every part of merchandising. Those are areas you can continue developing alongside the founder. We are looking for strong retail foundations, reliability, good taste, and the ability to lead a small team well.
