RN - Telemetry

Registered Nurse (RN)

This position is located in a MedSurg/Telemetry unit with a total of 38 beds, including 8 telemetry beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5, and the unit operates in a fast-paced environment. The shift length is 12 hours, with shifts primarily at night.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care to a diverse patient population, including general MedSurg patients and post-operative orthopedic patients.
• Coordinate and implement care plans based on patient needs and unit protocols.
• Float to telemetry as necessary and demonstrate the ability to read and interpret EKG strips.
• Administer medications and IV drips, including Amiodarone and Diltiazem, while ensuring patient safety and adherence to protocols.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including hospitalists and intensivists to optimize patient care.
• Participate in unit orientation, including a 1-2 day onboarding with a preceptor.
• Engage in self-scheduling while being willing to work every other weekend and rotating holidays as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a MedSurg or telemetry setting.
• Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS.
• Ability to manage and interpret telemetry data effectively.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Flexibility to float between units as necessary based on patient census and staffing needs.

Additional Information

• Scrub color: Navy; under shirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets are optional but must be navy.
• Hospitalist or intensivist available on-site for support during shifts.
• No RT or IV teams available; respiratory therapy and pharmacy support are available 24/7.
• Census and staffing will dictate the presence of nurse aides on the unit.
• Orientation to the unit will be provided during the first week, with subsequent scheduling completed by management.
• COVID-19 vaccination requirements: Medical declination requires a physician's note; religious declination does not require documentation.

Holiday and Time Off Policy

Travelers are expected to work 2 out of the 3 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's. While holiday time off requests will be considered, it is not guaranteed. Schedules are typically released 4 weeks in advance, allowing travelers to manage their availability effectively.
