Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Stepdown/Intermediate Care Unit position requiring 2+ years of experience and NIHSS certification for a night shift assignment.

Details

Acute care Intermediate Care Unit (IMU) with 30 beds (14 private & 16 semi-private)

Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:4 to 1:5, occasionally up to 1:6

Uses EPIC and Sunrise EMR systems

12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week, with weekend rotation (4 weekend night shifts per 4-week schedule)

Self-scheduling available with 4 requested days off per month, provided unit needs are met

Floating required into Tele or MedSurg units with ratios up to 1:6 or 1:7

Cares for patients with chest pain, r/o MI, CHF, arrhythmias, post pacer, and pre/post cardiac catheterization

Manages radial bands and groin checks post-procedure, and monitors patients on Tikosyn therapy

Uses Nihon Kohden telemetry monitors and must be able to read and interpret own strips despite Tele Tech support

Titrates drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetolol, Nitro, Heparin, and occasionally Lasix

Supported by 24/7 in-house Hospitalist, Intensivist, IV/PICC team, Respiratory Therapy, and Pharmacy

Requirements

Active WV or Compact RN license required

BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

BSN not required for this position

Must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry strips

Must be competent in titrating high-risk cardiac drips

Unexpired driver's license copy required for consideration

Additional Information

Charge nurses take a full patient assignment on both day and night shifts

Unit supported by 2-3 CNAs with ratios of 1:10-12 and a Clinical Assistant

Floor-specific orientation includes 4 hours with HR followed by 2 days with a preceptor on the unit

Scrub requirement: navy blue top and bottom with navy scrub jackets, no hoodies

Holiday coverage may be required but is typically minimal, as perm staff usually cover holidays

Strict attendance policy allows no more than 2 occurrences (tardies/call-offs) per 13-week contract

Candidates must reside within a 50-mile radius of the facility

Local candidates are not accepted for this position

Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying

Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
