Field Inspector II

Responsible technical work in enforcing applicable national, state, and local laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations in the City's Capital Improvement Projects Office through reviewing architectural and engineering plans, specifications and contract documents of new and existing projects. Work includes field and office duties. Considerable fieldwork consisting of site visits to works in progress to verify compliance or non-compliance or contractor's work with construction drawings. Includes the monitoring of work progress.

Inspects and participates in the supervision of water, sewer, street, sidewalk, and related construction projects of contractors for compliance with plans, specifications and standards.

Reviews plans, blueprints, and specifications to determine compliance with applicable regulations, contract documents, good engineering and architectural practices and provide comments to consultants prior to bid issuance.

Oversees the contracted work on a daily basis for compliance.

Maintains daily log of activities and work accomplished; reviews monthly bills for quantities completed.

Responds to various questions and complaints phoned in by citizens as well as contractors.

Assists in reviewing and calculating bills for payment to contractors.

Assists in the review of change order proposals.

Maintains inspection records, permits, plans and related documents on file.

Acts as project inspector of City projects.

Prepares reports, records and correspondence concerning inspections and other relevant items.

Generally oversees projects of higher value and more complexity than Field Inspector I position.

Projects could be up to, but not limited to, a construction value of $2 million, including smaller streetscape projects and medium sized parks. On larger projects, Field Inspector II would receive assistance from Field Inspector III.

Performs related tasks as required.

Minimum Requirements:

College level courses in civil engineering, and

Three (3) years experience in sub-professional engineering or construction work.

Experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Physical Requirements:

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact.

Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, word processor, calculator, copier and fax machine.

Significant walking, and regular moving, climbing steep slopes, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and handling, sitting, standing, pushing and pulling.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press the general public and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation, gender identity or sexual orientation.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies. Strong understanding of ethical behavior is required.

Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Performs related work as required.

Reports to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the City of Miami Beach.

For all technical, professional, supervisory and managerial positions:

Ability to develop innovative and creative solutions to issues consistent with the City's strategic plan.
