Certified Phlebotomy Technician Per Diem Day Shift Job Category : Technical/Spec Sal Requisition Number : CERTI003687 Posted : August 21, 2026 Part-Time On-site Hourly Range : $21.85 USD to $32.13 USD Locations Showing 1 location Description Job Summary: The Certified Phlebotomy Technician is responsible for performing phlebotomy, specimen processing, micro plating, and assisting the Clinical Laboratory Scientist ( CLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in the laboratory. Professional application of the laboratory’s principles, theories, techniques of phlebotomy and specimen processing will be required. This position reports to the lead laboratory assistant, laboratory manager/supervisor, and/or the administrative director of Laboratory services. Actively and consistently contributes to department operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication. Essential Functions: Follows the hospital’s policies and procedures and documents their review. Demonstrates ability to draw blood on all age groups, following each step of the laboratory procedure and antiseptic techniques. Troubleshoots problems, documents specimen rejection, prepares send-out specimens and performs billing procedures. Orients and trains new staff. Explains collection procedures to patients. Assists the CLS in the lab by centrifuging, organizing the specimens, placing specimens on the instruments to initiate a test run, making smears, plating micro, maintaining the instruments, and doing inventory. Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external. Uses AIDET in interactions with patients and family members. Utilizes white boards for patient communication. Collaborates across disciplines to assist in coordination of patient care, including but not limited to patient transfer, discharge, referrals, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs. Acts with a sense of urgency when performing tasks. Basic unit/department maintenance such as keeping files, drawers, cabinets free from unnecessary clutter. Reports on any equipment and or environmental issues for repair. Abides by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations. Utilizes SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) when communicating with oncoming shift, physician communication and giving report to ancillary or other nursing services. Speaks up to stop the line and escalates potential safety events if necessary. Completes and attends monthly training assigned. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications/Experience: Six (6) months phlebotomy experience in an accredited hospital clinical laboratory, preferred. *Internal Employees with the appropriate licensure and certifications do not require experience.* Experience working with laboratory instrumentation is preferred.
