The RN provides care to patients utilizing the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, and resources within the philosophy of the institution. Responsibilities include performing duties specific to the scope of service and implementing procedures related to the area of practice. The RN maintains accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure integration of information for the healthcare team. Initial assessments are completed upon patient admission, and appropriate plans of care are developed based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. The plan of care is modified based on continuous evaluation. The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and correcting safety hazards and incidents. Communication with colleagues is direct and private when necessary to resolve issues. Constructive feedback is offered to assist in the professional development of peers, and collaboration with colleagues is encouraged to expand knowledge. The RN identifies personal learning needs and takes initiative to find appropriate solutions. All departmental competencies must be fulfilled. Specific functions include receiving patient bedside shift report and ensuring patient input is included. The RN ensures patient room safety and updates patient communication boards during shift changes. Patient care tasks are delegated to assigned health care team members, and completion of these tasks is validated throughout the shift. Basic RN patient care activities, including assessments, vital signs interpretation, and ensuring physician orders are completed, are documented. The RN meets documentation standards for each assigned patient. Patient medications are provided using the five rights: right patient, right medication, right route, right dose, and right time. Maintaining patient safety is the highest priority, incorporating safety measures such as fall precautions and isolation precautions. A positive attitude is maintained to promote a healthy work environment and foster patient healing. Prompt responses to patient call lights are emphasized to ensure effective triage and completion of patient needs. Critical thinking skills are applied to evaluate overall patient condition and identify changes in patient status. Effective communication within the healthcare team is essential for promoting collaboration, patient care coordination, and safety. Time management is crucial to enable smooth admission and discharge processes for patients.
