Mechanical Shop Helper – Assembly Trainee
Location: Cedartown, GA
Pay: $18 - $20/hour DOE
Job Type: Full-time, temporary-to-hire
Schedule: 6:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
Overtime: Must be available for overtime and occasional weekends as needed
Position Summary
We are hiring a dependable, mechanically inclined Shop Helper to assist experienced technicians with the assembly, wiring, preparation, and maintenance of outdoor industrial elevators and hoists.
This is a hands-on helper and trainee position. Daily responsibilities may include sweeping the shop, retrieving tools and materials, organizing parts, painting equipment, and assisting technicians. The selected candidate will also have the opportunity to learn how outdoor elevators and hoists are assembled, wired, and maintained.
This is a great opportunity for someone with automotive shop, oil-change, tire shop, construction, manufacturing, warehouse, assembly, or trade-school experience who wants to develop industrial mechanical and electrical skills.
Job Duties
- Assist technicians with daily shop and equipment projects.
- Retrieve tools, parts, and materials for technicians.
- Sweep and maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop.
- Help assemble outdoor elevators, hoists, gates, and side screens.
- Learn how to mount and wire switches and basic electrical components.
- Assist with equipment preparation, painting, and make-ready work.
- Pull materials needed for gates, side screens, and other assemblies.
- Organize unused and returned materials.
- Use basic hand tools, power tools, soldering tools, tape measures, and levels.
- Operate a forklift after receiving proper training and authorization.
- Follow instructions, company policies, and all safety procedures.
- Check in with the shop manager each day for assignments.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Mechanically inclined and interested in learning a skilled trade.
- Some experience using basic hand tools and power tools.
- Able to read instructions and accurately use a tape measure.
- Experience in an oil-change shop, tire shop, automotive repair, construction, manufacturing, maintenance, or mechanical assembly is helpful.
- Recent technical or trade school graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Basic electrical, welding, soldering, or forklift experience is a plus but not required.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Dependable, safety-conscious, and willing to perform both general shop duties and hands-on assembly work.
- Available to work overtime and weekends when required.
Physical and Work Requirements
- Work is performed in a non-climate-controlled shop and occasionally outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Must be able to climb, bend, twist, stoop, and kneel.
- Must be able to regularly lift 11–23 kg (25–50 lbs.).
- Personal protective equipment may include safety glasses, hard hat, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, fire-resistant clothing, or a respirator.
