Legal Assistant
Location: Independence, OH Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8:30 AM - 4:45 PM (1-hour lunch) Pay: $27+/hourly Assignment Length: Contract-to-Hire Work Environment: Onsite
Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support a busy legal practice focused on insurance defense matters. This position will provide direct administrative support, manage legal calendars and deadlines, coordinate filings, and assist with document review using AI-powered legal technology tools.
Responsibilities
- Manage attorney calendars, court dates, depositions, hearings, and deadlines
- Track and maintain critical legal timelines, including expert witness deadlines
- Prepare, scan, upload, and organize legal documents and records
- Process medical records, billing records, and case-related documentation
- Review AI-generated reports for accuracy prior to attorney submission
- Perform electronic filings and navigate court filing systems
- Coordinate communications and scheduling activities
- Monitor email notifications and update master calendars accordingly
- Support document management and data transfer between systems
- Maintain accurate time tracking and administrative records
Qualifications
- High school diploma required
- 1-2 years of administrative, legal support, or office experience preferred
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
- Experience with Dropbox or other document management systems
- Comfortable learning and utilizing AI-powered software tools
- Experience with Dragon or dictation software is a plus
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and prioritization skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Professional communication and problem-solving abilities
