Join the Software Engineering Directorate’s Effectors Center team at Raytheon, where you will develop precision software applications that power the next generation of defense capabilities. In this role, you will design, code, integrate, and test critical real-time embedded software and firmware on missiles, launchers, radars, and naval fire control systems. Working as part of a fast-paced agile team at the leading edge of technology, you will gain hands-on exposure across the full software development lifecycle—advancing real-time systems design, digital signal processing, machine learning, and DevOps methodologies while helping defend our nation and allies.

• Assist in the derivation of software requirements, architecture design, implementation, and verification of real-time embedded software and application tools.
\ N
• Design, code, test, andintegrate high-reliability software solutions utilizing C, C++, and object-oriented programming methodologies.
\ N
• Execute hardware-software integration, bench debugging, and testing on embedded targets and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments.
\ N
• Participate actively ininternal peer code reviews, software component design reviews, and technical trade studies.
\ N
• Collaborate closely with systems engineers, hardware designers, and project managers to align requirements, constraints, and interface definitions.
\ N
• Follow established software engineering processes and configuration management practices to deliver robust, mission-critical work products.
\ N

Qualifications You Must Have

\ N

• Bachelor’s degreein Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) major obtained by start date.
\ N
• Experience developing, building, or debugging software applications utilizing C, C++, or another object-oriented programming language.
\ N
• Experience with hardware-software integration, embedded system testing, or bench-level software debugging.
\ N
• Experience developing software using object-oriented principles and the practical application of common data structures and algorithms.
\ N

Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Experience with embedded real-time operating systems (RTOS such as FreeRTOS, VxWorks, or embedded Linux) or device driver development.
\ N
• Hands-on experience developing low-level code for microcontrollers, microprocessors, or development boards (e.G., ARM, Arduino, Raspberry Pi).
\ N
• Knowledge of systems software design, operating system architectures, and assembly language.
\ N
• Experience utilizing modeling tools, simulation environments, or scripting languages (such as MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or LabVIEW).
\ N
• Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation or FPGA design using VHDL or Verilog.
\ N
• Familiarity with modernsoftware development workflows, version control (such as Git), and Agile methodologies.
\ N
• Exposure to machine learning frameworks (e.G., PyTorch, TensorFlow) or scientific data processing tools (NumPy, Pandas).

• Experience creating formal technical documentation, such as architecture diagrams, interface control documents, or API specifications.

• Previous internship or research experience in aerospace, defense, or high-reliability embedded software engineering.

\ N The salary range for this role is 57,200 USD - 108,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
