APEX Placement and Consulting has partnered with an exciting company in Harrisonburg, VA looking to add a Prep Cook to their already amazing team. Their primary responsibility will be to prepare and serve high-quality, nutritious meals while following standardized recipes, food safety regulations, and sanitation standards to ensure an exceptional dining experience. What your day will look like:

• Prepare meals according to standardized recipes while maintaining proper portion sizes, menu specifications, and presentation standards.
• Complete and maintain daily production worksheets, inventory records, and waste logs accurately.
• Taste finished menu items to verify quality, flavor, and consistency.
• Monitor and document hot and cold food temperatures throughout preparation and meal service to ensure food safety standards are consistently met.
• In the absence of the Director of Culinary, inspect and verify incoming food products and supplies for quality and accuracy.
• Assist with and oversee the proper storage, rotation, and organization of food products and supplies.
• Communicate food, supply, and equipment needs to the Director of Culinary, and promptly report equipment malfunctions or unsafe conditions.
• Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local health, sanitation, and food safety regulations, as well as departmental policies and procedures.
• Support successful health department and third-party inspections by following established sanitation and food handling standards.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Culinary.

What we are looking for:

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of cooking experience, preferably in batch cooking, family-style restaurants, or short-order cooking.
• At least 1 year of food service experience in a healthcare dietary setting is preferred.
• Knowledge of large-scale food preparation, portion control, and proper food serving practices.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
